Summary

The December 2023 Daily Challenge is a commitment to daily writing, featuring a list of prompts for inspiration, and inviting writers to share their work and experiences.

Abstract

The undefined website presents the December 2023 Daily Challenge, an initiative aimed at encouraging writers to recommit to daily writing practice. The challenge is open to all, with a variety of prompts provided by both the author and contributors, covering diverse topics such as personal reflection, holiday traditions, and creativity. Participants are encouraged to interpret the prompts freely and share their writings, fostering a sense of community and mutual support. The author acknowledges the difficulty of maintaining the practice, especially since October, and emphasizes the importance of starting anew without waiting for a new year. The challenge also includes a tagging system to involve publication writers and a call for suggestions to improve future challenges.

December 2023 Daily Challenge

I’m recommitting to writing every day!

Created by Author in Canva Pro

Do you feel as though the daily challenge is too much or do you want to recommit? I’ve been awful since October, and my writing shows. I am recommitting to making this a daily practice. (No need to wait until January 1st to make a change!)

Who wants to commit to the challenge of writing daily again?

Thanks to those who sent in prompts! Many on here are mine, and I apologize for a few of them. LOL

Let’s get into it!

Interpret these however you wish. Sometimes a prompt inspires a story one cannot easily explain how … Just write. Whatever comes up for you is exactly what was supposed to come up.

I look forward to reading and commenting on pieces.

  1. Emma Vincent: How do you handle boredom?
  2. What holiday decoration holds a special place in your heart?
  3. Lynn L. Alexander: If you had to choose a charm to represent yourself, what would you choose?
  4. Emma Vincent: Where would it be if you could go anywhere at Christmas, with or without your loved ones? What would you do there?
  5. Bruce Coulter: What is the best gift you’ve ever given?
  6. Lynn L. Alexander: Take a book you like and choose who you would like to play the characters in a film adaptation.
  7. Today is the first day of Hanukkah. (The link is where I got my information.) Also known as the Feast of Dedication or Festival of Lights, it is a time when Jews rededicate their hearts to love and worship God. Reflecting on the meaning of the holiday, what is your heart calling you to do?
  8. Karen Schwartz: Write about a time you got noticed.
  9. Write a poem about winter.
  10. Emma Vincent: You’re as old as you feel. Do you feel younger or older than your chronological age?
  11. Karen Schwartz: If you could enhance one of your five senses, which one would it be?
  12. Emma Vincent: Christmas/New Year’s week is a busy time for a lot of folks: Pick a past prompt that you wanted to write but didn’t have time to, or incorporate 2 or 3 fave prompts into a post.
  13. Lynn L. Alexander: What have you struggled with this year and how did you handle it?
  14. Did you ever have a Grinch steal Christmas? (Maybe a drunk uncle or cranky aunt?)
  15. What is your favorite holiday movie? What do you love about it?
  16. It’s National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day! I’d love for you to share the ugliest sweater you’ve ever worn, or seen worn. Can’t think of a thing? Go ahead … design one!
  17. Emma Vincent: Check out the International Awareness Days for December here: (https://www.awarenessdays.com/awareness-days-calendar/photo/2023-12-01/)and pick one that inspires you to write.
  18. As we get closer to the holidays, is there anything that is hard or difficult?
  19. Emma Vincent: What cause do you care about and why this one?
  20. Have you ever made paper snowflakes? If you have time, make one now and share the experience of stepping back into childhood.
  21. Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, but in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the longest day of the year. Write about how the day’s length impacts your life.
  22. Write a letter of complaint about your worst customer service experience. (see tomorrow’s)
  23. Write a letter commending an employee because of the great customer service you experienced. (see yesterday’s)
  24. It’s Christmas Eve. Are you opening presents or waiting for the morning? Where did this tradition start? What do you like/dislike about it? How has it changed over the years?
  25. Christmas Day. What does Christmas mean to you?
  26. Kwanzaa has seven principles: Unity, Self-determination, Collective work and responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith. Pick one principle and share how it is reflected in your life.
  27. We’re getting close to a new year. What are the top three lessons learned from the past year?
  28. Goal-setting … love it or hate it?
  29. Do you have a writing routine?
  30. You know how every motivational speaker asks you to close your eyes and imagine something that really made you feel awesome? Then they ask you to put yourself in that place and really, really feel it? Do that and write about it.
  31. Party or not?

Always up for suggestions.
