Abstract

our loops of disbelief or anger and that’s all you talk about. You go on and on about how shitty things are. How sorry you are for the behavior of other white people. You moan, you whine, and of course you cry…there are a lot of tears.

BUT THAT IS ALL. YOU DO NOT TAKE MEANINGFUL ACTION.

So on this day. A day that so many, on both sides, are hoping will be the defining moment regarding the essential nature and character of the United States, I thought it would be the perfect time to help anti-racist white people process and get out of their feelings and join the rest of us in creating an identity for the United States that it was not designed to have.

https://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/

Denial, let’s be honest, is where most white people, in the United States, fall. They continue to sit in disbelief at the telling of our stories. These are the individuals who know something is different but are not yet ready to accept that their privilege, if they will even admit to having any, was gained as a result of oppressing and annihilating others. They are working hard to reconcile what they hear and see in the media or real life with the intentional lack of historical knowledge they need to make any sense of this new understanding. These are the individuals who pepper us with requests for data, they #notallwhitepeople and #alllivesmatter us because any other responses would mean acknowledging their own ignorance and role, intentional or otherwise, in maintaining the house of white supremacy.

https://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/

Anger is one of the two stages where white people get stuck and boy do you get angry. Every other word out of your mouths is “fight this” and “fight that”. It makes sense to want to fight but what many of you are unaware of is that your calls to fight seldom will make you the victim. What usually happens is that your anger triggers the anger of other white people and they in turn focus their anger onto the very communities of marginalized individuals you are angrily working to protect. We’ve increasingly seen this play out in examples such as black man beaten in Charlottesville found not guilty of assaulting white supremacist, ‘whites don’t shoot whites,’ suspected gunman told man after killing 2 black customers at Kentucky Kroger, U.S. militia groups head to border, stirred by Trump’s call to arms, and when the dreaded ‘other’ is an angry white man to name a few. White people must understand that although anger is a normal stage in the grieving process, your anger does not put you in danger but threatens the lives and well-being of the most vulnerable members of our society.

https://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/

Let me be honest, although I am very aware of the stages and the need for individuals to move through them at their own pace, bargaining is the stage where I lose my patience with white people. This is the stage where you really work my nerves because this is where you cen

ter yourself, often to the detriment of those communities who are actually in harms way. You are so into your guilt for “not knowing” that instead of channeling your newfound understanding into learning and taking action, you position yourself as a martyr or, god forbid, an ally, and every conversation is about you, how badly you feel for not being aware of white supremacy or even the level of your own privilege. THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU! I get it. You’re upset. But please stop making your shit to unpack and deal with, the emotional labor of others, particularly individuals whose lived experiences are steeped in the oppression of white supremacy.

https://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/

Depression. Now this is a big one because this is the other stage that white people get stuck in because working to dismantle a system of white supremacy seems like an impossible and overwhelming effort. How does one even start to work on attacking this goal? So many of us are used to instant gratification of getting to the “win” that for many, not seeing a way to an easy “win” sends you into a place of “why bother”. Why bother? Because our lives depend on you. We need your effort, your energy, your ideas, and your resources to make meaningful, long-lasting change and we need it like yesterday. Yes, this is a daunting undertaking but really think about the alternative. Although you may only be a witness to the atrocities that white supremacy historically and continues to inflict on marginalized communities, what you are also beginning to notice is that you, as a white person, are increasingly being impacted by its negative outcomes. This is because white supremacy is a parasite that has now started to eat its host…WHITENESS.

https://grief.com/the-five-stages-of-grief/

Acceptance! Finally! It is only when you are able to accept that as a white person, you have unfairly benefitted from the unearned privileges stolen from others, that you are of any help to those already on the ground, working to dismantle white supremacy. Your effort is an important component of this work and we need you to do your part. We need you to not wait around looking for orders but to actively engage by asking “how can I help?”, “where do you need me?”, “who can I connect you to?”, and “how can I fund this?” to name a few. It is important for you to also check your privilege to ensure that you are not stepping into roles where you are not qualified or that are occupied by others. You should be doing everything you can to amplify and lift the people, voices, and initiatives of those with limited or no privilege, while remaining in the background.

Also, if you’re serious about dismantling white supremacy, check out the Being Antiracist events. Take this opportunity to learn the basics of being Antiracist, while minimizing the potential for harm your whiteness has on others, as you learn.

Again, let me state, that this is not about you because the work we are doing, when giving the support we need, benefits us all.

ENJOY! Because this is a classic and can NEVER, in my opinion be shared enough.

Debunking Donald Trump’s Lies and False Claims. 3 Years Later.

Lies are contagious. It’s time to read up on history as Montenegro will not start the World War III.

Lies have no legs. Instead, the have ugly little bat wings. They travel fast and far.

They are contagious and poisonous.

I can’t stand lies and those who lie. There is a special little place for liars in the afterlife, for those who were fortunate to escape justice in this life.

Truth prevails. No matter what. Always.

Last week I engaged in a small talk with a colleague from Austin, Texas. Somehow we touched the topic of my origin. I proudly announced that I am from Montenegro.

Suddenly he closed down and nodded. I could feel the tension so I asked: “Have you ever been to Montenegro? It’s so beautiful!”

“Nope, I have actually heard it’s quite dangerous. The people are known to be aggressive”.

Whaaaat?!

I wanted to defend Montenegro but then I thought — in doing so I may be perceived as an “aggressive defender”. Therefore, I let it be — for now.

Later that evening I started my research. Where has this belief come from? i Found a statement made by no other than the know-it-all Mr. Donald Trump.

In 2018 during an interview with Trump on Fox News a host Tucker Carlson asked him why the U.S. should abide by the rules of the NATO and defend Montenegro if (theoretically)it is attacked.

“Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?” Carlson asked. “Why ?”

“I understand what you’re saying,” Trump replied. “I’ve asked the same question.”

“Montenegro is a tiny country with very strong people… they have aggressive people. They may get aggressive, and congratulations, you’re in World War III.”

What does Trump have against Montenegro?! Where did he get the idea that Montenegrin people were “very aggressive,” no less that they might start World War III?!

The whole statement is wrong — obviously. This ridiculous statement has been spread around for too long — three years. It’s time to teach Mr. Trump and the poor souls which have been poisoned a thing or two about Montenegro, it’s people, history and geography.

Montenegrin’s Are NOT Aggressive

Montenegro has never occupied a single country. The whole history of Montenegro is a history of fighting for it’s freedom.During the reign of Ottoman Empire — Montenegrin has been fighting for it’s independence. They have been occupied by countless world powers.

They have always fought in defense wars rather than wars of conquest.

After World War I, then-Kingdom of Montenegro was forced to become part of the new, larger Kingdom of Yugoslavia.World War II brought more trouble, when the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was occupied by the Axis powers. Then, on July 13, 1941, the Montenegrin people rose up against Nazi Germany and its fascist Italian ally in the first armed uprising in occupied Europe, liberating most of their imprisoned part of the occupied Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

Ultimately, though, the rebellion was crushed and the country was reoccupied.

After the war, Montenegro became one of the six constituent republics of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , and the capital was renamed Titograd in honor Yugoslav President Josip Tito. Forty years later, after the dissolution of the SFRY, Montenegro remained part of a smaller Federal Republic of Yugoslavia along with Serbia.

Then, in the mid-90s, came the horrific Bosnian and Croatian Wars.

However Montenegro’s role during those wars was an asylum and a haven of peace.Montenegro took in over 120,000 refugees from the other states!

Finally, the resilient spark of Montenegrin freedom rose again on May 21, 2006, by which time the long-suppressed nation was one half of the state of Serbia and Montenegro.

On that day Montenegro regained it’s independence in a pretty ‘aggressive’ way — in a peaceful, democratic referendum supported by the international community. And so she remains today.

Montenegro Will NOT Start A World War III

Montenegro has not started a war before. Montenegro is a tourist safe haven and one of the safest countries in the world for families. The crime rates in Montenegro are nearly non existent.

Montenegrins are naturally a wonderfully warm and welcoming people — one of the many benefits of having such a diverse melting pot of cultures and ethnicity in a single country.

People will happily go out of their way to help you and families in particular are highly treasured guests. Traditional Montenegrin culture is very family-focused, with large families and multi-generational living the norm in less developed areas, making this an ideal place to come with children.

Montenegro whole economy is based on hospitality and tourism. It has become a tourist hot spot, is trying to avoid conflict on its soil, or anywhere in the vicinity. With its long Adriatic coastline and rugged mountain ranges, Montenegro has come to increasingly rely on tourism for revenue any any instability in the neighborhood would cause serious problems for Montenegro and it’s residents.

The last thing Montenegro would do is start a war.

Montenegro is NOT Tiny

Mr. Trump can you define tiny?

Montenegro is a small country. But tiny? I am not sure about that.

There are 9 European countries that are smaller than Montenegro, including several which can be called tiny — Vatican City (0.17 sq. miles) or Monaco (0.78)

Trump has told many lies. Too often, too big. I wonder who has taught him that?

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.” ― Adolf Hitler

No More Lies

My only hope is for this article to travel fast and far on it’s solid, evidence based legs — and reach those who have been poisoned once again by Mr. Trump’s fabrications.

Montenegro is a country with very strong, warm, hospitable and welcoming people… People who treasure freedom, independence and family. They would never initiate any conflict.

Now — that’s better.

Thank you for reading and spreading the truth.
