Dear Teenage Self

Self-development Through Poetry Challenge Prompt #22: Teenage Self

If you could time travel, what would you tell your teenage self?

so many things we didn’t know back then we were naïve and knew little about men

we were thirsty for some companionship not knowing how to master our own ship

we thought we could trust anyone but it was more like being under the gun

we wanted out of the awful place we lived but getting out took all we had to give

mistakenly, heartbroken was the path taken it shined on top, but underneath a path mistaken

if I could give you the world today in all you need I would most kindly say you deserve to achieve

the best in life, no lies, and unbroken promises the health of a wizard and an awesome long lasting partner

kindness to match the love you have given the love to match the kindness you were given

you made a life, did well in school you raised your children with love, so cool

I can’t erase the hardships you went through but those that didn’t love you were such fools

you did your best, the circumstances not easy you survived it all, remarkable, not easy

you deserve the best in love and kindness don’t doubt that, in health too I hope your faith in yourself remains and continues to grow new

thanks for trying, for all the studying you did and just for being a great kid

congrats on getting such good marks use that for yourself, stay out of the dark

wish I could go back to be your friend but then this life now would certainly end

forgive me for being such a dumb ass you are smart, you are forgiven, you have much class

be cautious and only look for what’s real those that aren’t, toss under the wheel.

despite everything, we turned out pretty well

Thanks for reading and to Sahil Patel for this prompt.
