Dear Lover, What’s the Rush?
a poem
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s not move too quickly to reach the end like children tearing through the packaging of a gift to hastily expose the treasure inside
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s be seduced by the curls and curves of the ribbon the pattern and smoothness of the paper
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s remove the wrappings slowly gently sliding our fingers under the tape to reveal the box underneath
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s take a moment to linger over the package leisurely exploring its corners and edges luxuriating in its textures and shapes
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s wait a moment before removing the lid building our hunger for the treasure inside
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s uncover this slowly fingering through the folds of the tissue paper with tenderness and care heightening our anticipation of the ecstasy that awaits
dear lover what’s the rush?
let’s treat this moment like the gift that it is a gift to be savored a gift to you a gift to me a gift for us to enjoy opening together
