Dear Diary (2022): A Call for Submissions

Tell The DIY Diaries about your favorite projects of the year

As we settle into our respective couches with our beverages of choice to relax and reflect back on 2022, I hope you’re thinking about the do-it-yourself projects you’ve worked on over the past year.

I’m drinking my herbal tea and scrolling through the archives of The DIY Diaries and remembering some of the cool things our writers have done. Mercedes O’Leary created her first-ever homemade Halloween costume. Timpoa replaced a sewer line! Celeste Wilson created all manner of crafts out of everyday items around her house. And those are just a few examples.

Maybe you worked on some art projects at home. Maybe you taught yourself software and design like Jerikho Jordan and Carmellita have been doing. Maybe you did a project in your home or garden. Maybe you tried new recipes like Mona S Gable or found creative uses for kitchen items like Penny Goblin finding twenty ways to use pickle juice!

For our last call for submissions for the year, the editors at The DIY Diaries would love for you to send us a little diary entry of your own about anything you’d like to share from your DIY adventures (big or small) from 2022.

You can share a list of things you did. You can talk about one thing you did. You can talk about things you wanted to do but didn’t get to yet. You can share your aspirations for 2023. Or you can do some combination of the above, or something quite different!

As usual, we’re very relaxed in what fits as a response to this writing prompt. We just would like to hear about what you’ve been up to, and what you’ve enjoyed doing over the past year. Have you tried a new recipe that you loved? Did you plant something in a flower pot in your windowsill that gives you pleasure every day? We want to hear about it. :)

What you write about in your Dear Diary post doesn’t have to relate to anything previously published in The DIY Diaries. The idea is just to look back and make note of some of the stuff you did in 2022 — and hopefully to feel good and empowered in the process as you share with others who share your enthusiasm for doing things ourselves.

Please do let me know if you have any questions, and please drop a note in the comments if you aren’t yet a writer for The DIY Diaries and would like to be added.

By the way, the Medium staffers are curating a list of posts that look back in some way on 2022; if you want your story to be considered for their list, use “2022” as one of your tags. Highlights from this list have also been appearing in the featured stories toward the upper right of the main Medium page (as seen when using a web browser).
