Dead Trans Kids Aren’t “Resting in Power”
They’re Not Resting in Anything, They’re Fucking Dead
I honest to fucking Christ don’t understand why homophobes bully, persecute, and torture transgender kids. What is it that makes you automatically hate other people who would never even think of starting shit with you? Did your parents teach you this deplorable behavior?
Or did Jesus command you to commit murder in his name? I didn’t see that part in the Bible. After attending church three times a week for 21 years, it seems as though I’d remember that part. Oh yeah, that’s because it’s not fucking there.
The latest trans murder happened to 16-year-old Nex Dagny Benedict in Oklahoma earlier this month. It breaks my heart right in half hearing the sickening details. Just seeing their smiling face in this picture crushes my soul. As a proud father of a wonderful LGBTQ daughter, I’m infuriated at these murdering teenagers who took Nex’s life in a school bathroom.
My lesbian daughter is an exceptional human being. Being gay doesn’t define her as a human being, but it’s a big part of who she is. Meeting several of her transgender friends at Pride events and school functions has been a pleasure. All have been kind, funny, polite young people. I can assure you that they are not all groomers and pedophiles, as the Far Right likes to insist is true.
This is more than I can say for the Moral Majority MAGA morons who are raising their children to hate. Red-voting Conservative Christians who are supporting their racist, bigoted, criminal, rapist ex-president Donald Trump seem to think that the LGBTQ community doesn’t deserve kindness or equal rights.
Some of them don’t think trans kids deserve to live.
When you don’t address the bullying and violence that your child commits on school property, it’s a huge problem. When you feel that the god you worship wants LGBTQ people to burn in Hell, that’s another big flaw in your moral character. When kids bully and murder trans kids, you are an accomplice in that tragedy.
These teenagers severely beat Nex in a school bathroom. How terrified were they when their head was being bashed into the bathroom floor? The bullying of Nex had been going on since 2023. And what did the Oklahoma high school do to prevent it?
Not a goddamn thing. They didn’t even call an ambulance for them after the incident, even when Nex couldn’t walk to the nurse's office after the assault. Evidently in Oklahoma, it’s acceptable to allow students to beat other students within an inch of their life. Nex died the next day from their injuries in a hospital.
And nobody on the conservative GOP side gives a fuck. If they do, they certainly aren’t speaking out about this. They sit complacently, offering useless thoughts and prayers. You bet your ass they’ll still be voting for Donald Trump in November. And they’ll automatically vote for any trash politician with an (R) next to their name on the ballot.
Certain types of people don’t seem to grasp the concept of “Live and let live”. It’s bad enough how LGBTQ people are treated in this country by those who have hate and bigotry in their hearts. They are picked on, bullied, and abused by so many. Why can’t people just fuck off and let others be who they want to be?
You don’t have to approve of it. You don’t have to go along with it. But when you physically and mentally abuse people simply for existing, I have a big problem with that. It boils my blood and I hope with everything I have that justice is coming your way.
I don’t agree with a lot of the beliefs some people hold. Yet I’m not going to attempt to bully, assault, or kill someone because I don’t believe the things they believe in. Sadly, far too many people are willing to cross the line and even break laws to harm the gay and trans community.
Our country is plagued by mass shootings. Far too many of these cowardly, heinous acts have been committed by people with hate in their hearts toward marginalized citizens. Racism and bigotry have fueled mass murder against minorities, immigrants, and LGBTQ people. And for what?
Are these groups going out and harming others? Are they asking for anything other than to be respected and left alone? Is giving equal rights to all citizens in our country too much to ask? The way things are trending, evidently so.
There’s a woman behind the LGBTQ hate. Remember this name: Chaya Raichik. Raichik runs a TikTok account that is popular with far-right nutjobs who take her hateful, bigoted rhetoric and act upon it. She runs “Libs of TikTok”, and is a self-described “stochastic terrorist”. She finds it amusing to enflame bigotry and hate with her reprehensible social media accounts.
The Oklahoma state superintendent appointed her to the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Library Media Advisory Committee even though she’s inspired bomb threats to Oklahoma schools and is an unqualified non-resident of Oklahoma. Tell us you’re a white nationalist without telling us you’re a white nationalist, Superintendent Walters.
You just can’t make this shit up.
This state superintendent has failed the students of Oklahoma. By promoting fear-based ideologies against LGBTQ students and also promoting white nationalist religious values to his students, he has failed them. Just as he has failed Nex Benedict, a sophomore student who was beaten within an inch of their life in one of his school’s bathrooms
He is unqualified to hold the position he does as state superintendent of public education. Just as Chaya Raichik is unqualified to decide which books should be banned from school libraries. Basing your views and decisions on religious beliefs, bigotry, and willful ignorance has no place in the public school system.
Oklahoma and red states like it need to do better. They have failed their students and are making LGBTQ kids live in fear. When you’re not safe in your own public school and are ridiculed, bullied, or even killed, change has to happen.
We owe that to Nex Benedict. We owe it to the LGBTQ community. We owe it to our country, which last time I checked, was supposed to be about liberty and justice for ALL, not just some.
