Summary

The website content expresses deep concern over the potential negative consequences of a Republican presidency in 2016, urging voters to support the Democratic candidate to prevent regressive policies and protect progressive gains.

Abstract

The author of the web content is critical of the Republican party's policies, drawing a parallel between the perceived negative impact of George W. Bush's presidency and the potential outcome of the 2016 election if a Republican candidate wins. They caution against repeating the mistakes of the 2000 election, where Ralph Nader voters are implied to have split the vote, leading to an undesirable outcome. The author argues that Republican-led policies such as Stand Your Ground laws, opposition to Obamacare, restrictions on women's reproductive rights, and voter suppression tactics are detrimental to the country. They cite studies and articles to support claims about the increase in deaths due to lack of healthcare expansion, the proliferation of abortion restrictions, and efforts to suppress minority and youth voting rights. The author emphasizes the importance of a Democratic presidency for the appointment of progressive Supreme Court Justices and the vetoing of harmful legislation, suggesting that a Republican victory could reverse civil rights and set the country back a century.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Stand Your Ground laws, which are prevalent in Republican-controlled states, have made it nearly legal to murder young black men.
  • Opposition to Obamacare by Republican governors is projected to result in thousands of preventable deaths annually.
  • The author is alarmed by the 267 abortion restrictions imposed in 31 states since 2011 and views the reduction of women's health services in Texas as a dangerous model for national policy.
  • The author accuses Republicans of attempting to suppress voting rights among minorities and young people to influence election outcomes.
  • The author stresses that the election of a Democratic president is crucial for maintaining a progressive Supreme Court and for preventing the passage of harmful legislation through presidential veto power.
  • The author suggests that a Republican presidency, particularly under Donald Trump, could inflict severe damage to the country, emphasizing the need for a high turnout of minority and youth voters to prevent this outcome.

I’m sorry, but this attitude is the reason this country got f*cked by George W Bush. Don’t make the same mistake in 2016 that Ralph Nader voters made in 2000. Unless you favor Stand Your Ground laws, reduced access to health care for the poor, restrictions on womens’ reproductive care, and more voter suppression laws.

Stand Your Ground laws have made it almost legal to murder many young black men. Guess which states have these laws? The ones that have Republican controlled state legislatures.

Guess how many people will die in this country each year because Republican governors refuse to implement Obamacare? According to this study, “the number of deaths attributable to the lack of Medicaid expansion in opt-out states at between 7,115 and 17,104.”

Republican control of state legislatures have resulted in “ Roughly 267 abortion restrictions have been imposed in 31 states since 2011.” Women’s health services have been drastically cut in Texas, a plan the Republicans want to take nationwide.

Care about voting? This 2014 article describes how “Republicans Are Trying to Make Sure Minorities and Young People Don’t Vote This November.” A Republican victory in 2016 will open the flood gates to this anti-democratic behavior.

We need a Democratic president. It doesn’t matter how bad they seem to appear on issues that are important to us. We need them to select Supreme Court Justices. If a Republican wins the White House, the Supreme Court will be completely dominated by conservative judges who will assuredly set this country back 100 years. And we need the President to veto every destructive bill passed by Congress for the next four years.

If Black Lives Matter, we need a massive turnout of minorities and young people to prevent the untold damage to this country that could be done by a President Trump.
