How Would You Like to Turn Your Medium Story into an Audible book?

Audio books are profitable for fiction and non-fiction writers and authors!

Audible books created via the ACX website is a great way for authors to get more visibility for their titles and increase book sales. If you have a story that you plan to publish as a book, why not make it an audio book as well?

Don’t confuse Audible with audio. They’re the same but different.

Audible Books is the brand name for the audio books created via ACX. ACX provides a way for authors to connect with narrators and collaborate on various projects.

It’s hard to believe that more newly published authors don’t know about this resource, and even authors who have been around for years may be missing out on the benefits of having an audio book.

Not long ago, I wrote a story titled: You Can Make Money Online with Your Voice and a Decent Recording Device. In that story, I share some interesting and profitable ways for people to make money, using their voice.

One of the sections in that story is labeled: Make Money with Your Voice on ACX, and that is where I share what a great opportunity it can be, for someone who wants to narrate an author’s newly published book.

If you’re looking for a side hustle you can try, feel free to read all about the various ways you can make money online with your voice, and especially with ACX, which is owned by Amazon.

But right now, let’s consider the advantage of using ACX, from the author’s perspective.

Allow me to share some thoughts, as they relate to my own two audible books, narrated by someone I found on ACX.

You don’t have to pay out-of-pocket expenses for a narrator

A few years ago, when I discovered that authors don’t have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses, in order to get an ebook narrated, I took advantage of this fact.

I went to the ACX website and set up an account. I completed all the necessary steps, and made one of my book titles available to people looking to narrate.

As a result, I’ve had two of my small non-fiction ebooks narrated, however, I didn’t have any luck getting someone to narrate my novel.

At the time, I was more focused on non-fiction writing, so I never bothered to try and figure out what the problem was, when it comes to narrating fiction, versus non-fiction.

I’m sure that a long drawn out novel with multiple characters is more difficult to narrate than merely reading and providing factual details in an interesting way.

But, with regard to fiction, a short story with one or two characters seems like the perfect choice for narration. So even if you don’t have an entire book ready to publish, you could still publish a short story and have it narrated.

The talented speaker that I obtained as a narrator was Wendy Almeida, and she was super easy to work with. After she successfully narrated one of my “how to” ebooks, I enlisted her help to do a second one.

You can check them out on Amazon and even listen to a sample.

Both of the above audio books continue to earn me small royalties on a regular basis. The content was compiled from previously written articles, focusing on various related themes that the guidebooks cover.

These stories and articles are the type I speak about, when I suggest: How to Go from Niche Writer to Self Published Author in No Time!

Here are some more audio books you might find enjoyable, if not helpful:

Atomic Habits seems like just the thing to help people get rid of annoying habits, once and for all.

Or maybe you’d prefer a hot juicy novel, like: Seven Husbands

And you can’t go wrong with a book that provides a biopic look into the life of a star, and what brought them to their level of success. Listen to Viola Davis’ audiobook: Finding Me. Isn’t that just the best title?

Final Thoughts

As you continue on your writing journey, whatever your goals and objectives happen to be, find a way to take advantage of various tools and resources at your disposal.

When you do, you just might be surprised at how easy, convenient, and even cost-free that many resources for writers actually are.

With so many opportunities now available to get your writing out into the world, there is no reason for aspiring authors to continue holding back.

Why not pull out some of those awesome Medium stories you’ve written, and see if there is a way to self publish a short work of fiction or non-fiction on Amazon. Then you can have your story narrated and turned into an audio book.

Give it some thought, and apply what you just learned.
