Day 8: Uncontrollable Anger Is Your Enemy
(30 days of Ramadan reflections, Day-8)
Assalamualikum (peace be upon you),
Today, we mark the 8th of Ramadan, 2024, and our focus for reflection is on-
Anger.
Let’s dive into this important topic.
In the words of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), a man once asked the Prophet for advice, to which the Prophet, peace be upon him, replied, ‘Do not get angry.’ Despite repeated inquiries, the Prophet’s response remained consistent: ‘Do not get angry.’ ( Bukhari & Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) understood that mastering one’s anger equated to mastering oneself and all other aspects of life.
He emphasized this in another hadith, stating,
“The powerful man is not the one who can wrestle, but the powerful man is the one who can control himself at the time of anger.”
Indeed, the ability to control anger reflects the strength of one’s character and self-discipline.
Allah praises the Muttaqeen (God-conscious) for their ability to control anger among other virtues:
“Those who spend (in Allah’s cause) in prosperity and in adversity, who repress their anger, and who pardon men, verily, Allah loves the al-Muhsinun (the good-doers).” (Quran 3:134)
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) imparted four methods to manage anger effectively:
1. Seeking refuge in Allah
2. Changing one’s posture
3. Maintaining silence
4. Performing Wudu (ritual washing of hands, face, and feet)
Key points for today’s reflection:
✅ Uncontrolled anger not only harms relationships but also diminishes personal strength and character.
✅ Managing anger through prophetic teachings strengthens spiritual well-being and interpersonal connections.
O Allah! Grant us the strength and wisdom to control our anger, protect us from the destructive consequences of uncontrolled anger, and bless us with tranquility and peace in our heart and interactions. (Ameen)
