Summary

Two friends, Logan and Zach, discuss Zach's imaginary friend, revealing an unexpected detail about the friend's appearance that Zach never disclosed.

Abstract

In a micro-fiction piece titled "Day 31 of 💯: Imaginary Friends?", the story revolves around two men, Logan and Zach, sharing a moment by a fire on a cool night. Logan questions the reality of Zach's imaginary friend, suggesting that Zach is too old for such fantasies and encourages him to make real friends. Zach, after a moment of tension, reveals that he never told Logan what his imaginary friend looked like, implying that Logan's description might have a supernatural explanation. The story is part of a 💯 Story Challenge, inspired by Zane Dickens, and the author, Bradan, plans to self-publish the work rather than publish through a Medium publication.

Opinions

  • Logan believes Zach should outgrow the concept of imaginary friends and focus on forming real-life connections.
  • Zach's reaction to Logan's comment suggests a deeper, possibly unsettling, reality to his imaginary friend.
  • The story hints at a supernatural element, as Logan describes Zach's friend with accurate details that were never shared.
  • The author's decision to self-publish indicates a preference for independence and control over their creative work.
  • The 💯 Story Challenge is presented as a beneficial writing exercise to stimulate creativity and writing discipline.

💯 STORY CHALLENGE- A micro-fiction about friends and what is real.

The cool night air nipped at their exposed skin. The warmth of the fire gladly welcomed by both men, each with a beer in hand. They each stared into the fire for awhile without a word.

“Don’t you think you’re a little old to have an imaginary friend?” Logan asked.

Zach shrugged his shoulders and finished his drink. He was right, but it all seemed so real. “Yeah, I guess.”

“You have to get out more and make some real friends,” Logan gestured broadly with his hand. “One’s who don’t have scaly skin and forked tongues.”

Zach tensed his body and stared hard at Logan. “I never told you what he looked like…”

Inspired by Zane Dickens💯 Story Challenge. Hopefully I make it to the end but I will make a slight change to the rules. I plan to self publish my work instead of a Medium publication.
