Day 26: The beginning of non-duality, part 3
Welcome to 26/365 short, daily meditations for a more mindful, relaxed, and connected life.

Continuing the series of glimpses, we take a look at thought and become aware of the one who is aware of thoughts
1. What To Do:
- Sit down. Breathe a couple of deep, long, and focused breaths.
- Start to investigate your thoughts. Are they conscious language, images, movies, or a combination thereof.
- In a flash, ask yourself silently: Who or what is aware of the thoughts I am thinking?
- Rest as this answer. When you notice thoughts have returned, go back to 2.
2. Why to do it:
Thoughts are what we identify with the most. Most people go through their lives, located in their heads, while they are thinking. Or at least, they think they’re thinking.
While in reality, thinking only occurs. No one, not you or me, is thinking in the strict sense. Thoughts arise in awareness and they pass again. Very much like private birds that fly through your screen. Only you can see them. You can speak them out and do useful things with them. Or they can be harmful.
But you can’t decide to have them and more importantly they occur fairly independent of you.
Looking for what is aware of your thoughts then is the crucial step to notice that you’re not thinking, but that thoughts simply occur. In a way, there is no one to find who is thinking. You can rest as this non-finding until the next thought shows up and you once more have to make the realization of not being your thoughts, but arising as a thought.
