Dave Chapelle’s Powerful Words On SNL About The Election Results

A 90-second Masterclass on humanity.

Mycannx.com

We all know Dave Chapelle as a masterclass in comedy. After creating one of the most commercially successful programs on television, The Chapelle Show, Dave walked away from a $100 million renewal contract in 2005. He just didn’t want to do it anymore.

I respect that tremendously. As should you. Following your heart despite all the lures of the material world — comfort, instant gratifications, stability — is noble. But that’s not what I want to talk about today.

This past weekend, Dave hosted Saturday Night Live. It was on that very day that all news outlets projected that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be the next President and Vice President of the United States.

And so of course, Dave had to say a few words about this.

Now, I imagine this wasn’t an easy feat for anyone involved with the show. As I mentioned before, the news broke the day of the show. And so of course a few audibles had to be called on what Dave would say. He probably didn’t sweat it at all though. I am certain that he eloquently penned this update over a joint without any effort. He is that good.

Dave said a lot of powerful things over 16 minutes or so on the show. But I wanted to focus your attention on the words he spoke at the end of the show. These 90 seconds are worth a watch a few times over.

Let’s imagine for a second that as far as our cognitive senses go we could only sense the pain others felt without seeing the intellectual basis of it. As in, we couldn’t see that they are affiliated with the other political party, or are a certain race, or live in a certain state. Imagine how you would react to the visual of only the pain in others. I am certain that you would feel bad for them. You would feel empathy. You would feel like reaching out and helping.

This is what Dave is getting at. Let’s try to focus on the pain others feel despite our intellectual differences. We have to stop making our primary effort hating over intellectual differences. Our foundation needs to be love, and then only, can you get to work on the intellectual side. We cannot simply hate millions of people if we are going to build a happy world.

If you do anything this week, please think about this deeply. Our world needs a lot of love. This is how we get there.
