Not every first date goes well

It may have been a while since you went out on a date, and you may be nervous about how it will go. Maybe, you have been on a few bad dates in the past that didn’t turn into relationships. Maybe, you have just felt uncomfortable by how some of the dates that you have been on went. Either way, you might have a few questions on how to handle this situation so you can go into the date with optimism. So, what kind of situations might you encounter on your date? And how do you handle these situations? Though the answers to these questions may be different for everyone, here are a few suggestions.

1. Your date might be shy.

You may find out that the person that you decided to go out with is shy. This might throw you off if you are a talker, and you might wonder what you can do to open him or her up. Try finding a subject that your date has an interest in and start the conversation there. You may find that he or she is more comfortable talking about topics that he or she is emotionally invested in.

2. Your date might forget his or her manners.

If you notice that your date is so comfortable with you that he or she has forgotten his or her manners, then talk to him or her about it. If you don’t feel comfortable talking about this, then do your best to use your manners, and make it obvious that you are doing so. This might clue the other person in, and you may find that he or she begins to use his or her manners once again.

3. Your date might be preoccupied with his or her phone.

If you find that your date isn’t paying attention to you during the date because he or she is too occupied with his or her social life, then you might want to address this situation. If it continues after you talk to him or her about it, then you can do one of two things. You can patiently get through the date, or you can get up and leave. It is really up to you.

A first date may not always go as expected, but if you open up to the other person about your expectations, then you might find that the two of you can find a way to be on the same page.
