Dating and the Driver’s Seat
Whose hand is on the shifter?
You might be dating someone that you have a lot in common with, and the two of you might have been together for a while. Though the two of you might get along for the most part, you may have an issue because he or she might not have his or her own car. Therefore, you may be required to drive him or her everywhere, and this might be something that you want to change. So, what do you do if your other half doesn’t have his or her own vehicle? How do you approach this type of situation? Though the answers to these questions can be different for everyone, here are a few suggestions.
1. Discuss this issue with your partner.
Find out why your partner doesn’t have a car if you don’t already know the answer. Talk to him or her about what it would take to get a car so he or she can be more reliant on his or her personal transportation. Try to find a way to compromise on an answer to this issue so the two of you can move forward.
2. Start saving.
Work together to save your extra money so he or she can buy a car for him or herself. Use your extra pocket change if necessary or take some of the money that you use for entertainment and dedicate it to an extra fund to buy the vehicle for him or her. Working together on this might help the process go faster and help solve the issue.
3. Do the necessary paperwork.
Your partner might need more than a car. He or she might also need a license, so help him or her practice for the driver’s test, so he or she can get the needed paperwork in order to drive.
If you have been with your partner for a while and you have an issue because he or she doesn’t drive, then talk to him or her about it. Start saving for a vehicle together, and try to help him or her have the paperwork together so he or she can start driving.
