Dark Energy for Breakfast

A Haiku in Verses About Not Being Able to Add Milk to Coffee

ran out of oat milk my coffee is not the same wrong color and taste

maybe use whole milk my stomach might disagree need to buy some more

my morning, my day foiled by some bad planning now a bit darker

bitter, black coffee no sugar without the milk energy of shame

I ran out of oat milk this morning. I was very disappointed. I don’t usually put sugar in either way; I get enough sweetness from the milk. As I sit here drinking this deep abyss of stimulation, I lament for my oats. I can certainly appreciate the earth tones and nuttiness of a good blend on its own, but… that’s just not how I drink my coffee these days. Also, black coffee is apparently for sociopaths. So beware.

There was a poetry prompt a few days ago about quality time — for yourself. As I often take a bit of time for myself in the morning with my cup of coffee, I felt like today’s dilemma warranted a poem and a shout out to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for her original poem. As there is no deadline to join in on that bit of fun, you can check it out here:
