Dare To Bare It All And Tell Us Your Wildest Travel Story
Spring into this Writers Challenge collaboration for the new month and new season
This month, for the first time, I am co-hosting a Writers Challenge with Warren Patterson who is the owner and editor of the travel publication:
In case you didn’t know, I own and edit the following travel publication:
We both appreciate writing our own stories for our respective publications as well as reading stories by others in both publications.
The pubs have travel in common and share a passion for travel. However, more importantly, we share an appreciation for the community of people here on Medium who enjoy sharing stories that revolve around travel in some kind of way.
One of my favorite things about Globetrotters is the enthusiasm, support, consistency and dedication that Warren showcases with his monthly challenges and regular newsletters.
Creating and developing these wonderful online communities is one of the best and biggest surprises I’ve had since I started writing regularly on Medium at the end of last summer.
Here are some words from Warren about this:
We’re hoping to use this as an opportunity for you all to start connecting with travel writers across both publications, and that this will lead to new relationships and more read time for all of you on your travel stories.
So let’s get down to the details of what to do to enter. Make sure to read the submission guidelines carefully to ensure your story is accepted into the challenge and you’re in with a chance to win.
Without further Ado…
March Writers Challenge — My Wildest Travel Story
Here are the details of how to enter the challenge:
- You must write a story about the wildest experience you’ve ever had while traveling. It can be about anything wild or crazy that has happened to you: an unexpected encounter, falling in love, a shady experience, an event that took place that you wouldn’t expect at home, etc.
- How to write your title. Your title must finish with “My Wildest Travel Story.” For example, here’s the story I wrote as an example:
- You must follow and become a writer for both publications. Here are the submission guidelines for both Globetrotters and Taking Off:
- You can submit your story to either publication. It doesn’t matter whether you submit your story to Globetrotters or Taking Off, as long as all other guidelines are followed it will be accepted.
- You must share a story from the other publication — not the one to which you are submitting your story — and TAG the person that wrote it. If your challenge entry is published in Globetrotters, you must share a story from Taking Off (and vice versa). It can be any story, as long as it was submitted to the other publication.
- One winner will be chosen from each publication. The editors from both publications will consider all stories submitted to their publication and choose their winner each.
- The challenge will run up and until 23:59 EST, March 31st. Any stories submitted until then will be accepted. Multiple entries can be made by each writer and each story will count as one entry.
The winners will be announced in a “Creator’s Spotlight” posted in their chosen publication by April 4th.
This will include 10 stories in total from the writer to be shared — 5 travel and 5 non-travel stories — along with a write-up about what stood out about their story.
Although Warren Patterson and myself have both written stories, they won’t be entered as part of the challenge. As the owners of the publications, we won’t be taking part.
Please let us know in the comments if you have any further questions.
We wish you all the best and good luck!
