Dancing Inside

The house had been so night-time silent, & I was alone in the light of the TV screen. The sound was off, I just stared at my hands. But you came home early. I’d missed the feel of you.

I’m glad you’re home to tell me a story, Sweet and warm ‘bout how much you love me.

Days of sun, and nights of laughter, playing music, dancing crazy in the kitchen, kissing sweetly, cooking dinner, getting angry, not so angry, making up, and making love, and holding me, and I hold you, too. There’s so much that you love in me, and I love you…

…because sometimes I forget what’s real. I need you to help me find where I hide my heart. Take me away from all those bad memories that put me down and pull me so far apart. Kiss me again, taste the wine on my lips. I don’t need the world, I just want to dream with you.

Now it’s my turn to write you a poem, Of all the things that make me love you, too.

Arms around me, smiling broadly, eyes are shining, speaking loudly, a thousand facts and a hundred thoughts and dreaming, dreaming, always dreaming. Writing stories, drawing pictures, secret joking, quiet laughter, dancing inside. There’s so much that I love in you, Yes, I love you.

Did you notice that my tears are all gone? I really don’t know or even care for how long. Tomorrow will bring what tomorrow may bring, and being with you is everything … to me.
