Flint & Steel Full Circle Writing Challenge

Dances of Earth and Life

Everything in the cosmos does full circles, doesn’t it?

I, the earth, am moving around myself, and the sun, and I’m changing every moment. Some changes, you might sense; others you may not.

Spring

The days are slowly getting longer and warmer, buds starting to open from their wintery cocoons, spreading their arms out across my being.

Soon, they will blossom, and I’ll have soft pink pieces of beauty and hope sprouting from my body.

Summer

Ah, the angle of the sun, it’s changed: it looks at me more intimately now, eternal lovers that we are. How grateful I am for it, for its warmth coming straight towards me, for nourishing all beings who grace my body, for allowing dreams to stretch themselves out wide and long, for the late sunsets that are painted upon my sky.

Autumn

It starts slowly, barely perceptible, but I know it’s coming. I can sense the maple leaves beginning to drift away, their greens morphing into yellows, the autumn breeze carrying them on its shoulders down to the ground that birthed them. I can see the word ‘change’ scribbled across their veins as I take them back in, knowing they are at peace with it all.

Winter

It’s cold and gusty, dark and gloomy. The nights long and wet, days short and cloudy. Dreams hibernate, seeds dream of spring, lying quietly in my cradle. Fog swims over my skies and seems to linger on forever, but I know that I’m circling and changing, the days slowly but surely getting longer.

Spring Again

Did you not believe me when I said I do full circles? Look at the blossoms, bring them close to your nose, smell their beauty and you will believe my reality.

Here I am again, yet another spring, yet another opportunity to make love with change, yet another circle.

I’m at the same point I was last year. But what is that point, other than a random dot in space? Isn’t each spot in my circle a starting point? Am I the same planet I was last year? Are you the same being you were last moment?

I didn’t have a choice about whether to circle or not. I did what gravity, physics and life told me to: change, restart, change; repeat.

My circles are neither good nor bad. They are what they are: the rhythm of my existence, of yours, of ours together.

I have my own gravity that keeps things near me and on me. And then there’s the gravity of the sun that keeps my dance going.

If it weren’t for the sun, I’d be moving in a straight line, but the sun’s gravity is stronger than mine. So here I am, committed to doing circles around it.

But if there was no sun, would there be life? Would there be you? Do I have the option of resisting physics? Or should I embrace the laws of the cosmos and instead, enjoy it? Isn’t there beauty and wonder in my circling?

Did you live the life you wanted to, during my full circle around the sun? Did your dreams blossom during my full circle around myself? Did you pay attention to yourself during the full circle of this past breath?

How did you cope with your circles? Did my seasons guide you through changes in your life? Did they bring you joy and acceptance? Did they remind you of the full circle that your life is?

Tell me how you plan to live your life during my next circle, and I shall dance with you, again.
