Dall E: This AI Can Illustrate Your Imagination
You name it, Dall E can draw it
This AI tool is absolutely crazy. It can create original and photorealistic images and illustrations from a text description, for example, “An astronaut riding a horse in a photorealistic style”.
Yes! the image you see above is created by DALL E.
Just imagine if an AI tool could bring out your thoughts and craziest imagination into a real illustration that never really existed. That is awesome, right?
I was amazed just like you, after seeing what artificial intelligence can do today.
This AI-powered tool; Dall E, is a research project by a company called OpenAI, which is one of Elon Musk's co-founded companies.
This tool is very easy and fun to play with. You just have to feed it with text captions in simple language and Dall E will do the wonders for you.
Here’s another one that’d probably blow your mind. “Teddy bears shopping for groceries in ancient Egypt”.
This AI is capable of doing much more than we could ever imagine, including creating anthropomorphized versions of animals and objects, combining unrelated topics in all possible ways, rendering text, and applying transformations to existing images.
DALL-E is also capable of realistically editing and retouching photos. Based on the simple text instruction we feed, it can seamlessly blend AI-generated images into an existing original image, and It’s called “in-painting”.
Below is an example of in-painting, where the AI was asked to add a “dog” to the painting, and it seamlessly blended the picture of the dog into this image.
DALL-E was created by training a neural network on images and their text descriptions. Through deep learning, it not only understands individual objects, like astronauts and horses but learns from relationships between objects.
And when you ask DALL-E for an image of an astronaut riding a horse, it knows how to create that or anything else with a relationship to another object or action.
This AI is an example of how creative humans and smart systems can be combined to make amazing things —intensifying our creative potential.
As Dall E is a research project, which is not available to the public yet. Open AI has only given access to a hand-picked set of people who are professional artists, developers, researchers, journalists, and online creators.

This AI research by OpenAI has three outcomes:
- People can express themselves creatively and visually in ways they have not been before.
- Dall-E helps us understand how complex these systems are, and how they understand us.
- AI-generated images can tell us a lot about whether the system understands us, or is just repeating what it has been taught.
I still do not have access to Dall E, as this amazing AI tool is still under the development stage and access has been given only to a limited set of users by its creators(OpenAI).
I will write and post a full-fledged article on this as soon as I get my hands on this tool.
Let’s hope that DALL·E will empower people to express themselves creatively and also help creators understand how AI systems see and understand our world.
Probably, this could be the revolution of graphic design.
