A mid-morning reflection of the sun on the water

Daily Reflections

Reflections from my daily walks

Every day I go out on a walk, always on the same route. We live 600 meters from one of the main rivers of the Netherlands, and actually close to a point where three rivers — the Beneden Merwede, the Noord and the Oude Maas — come together. I mainly walk along the latter of the three, with only a short part of the route along the Noord.

When Dennett tagged me in the water reflections challenge, I knew I have to share some images I have taken on those many walks (today is the 133rd consecutive day!).

With all that water, there’s a lot of opportunity to grab my phone and take some photos! The light is different every day, and honestly, I never get tired of this route. It takes me between 35 and 40 minutes to walk the 3km, and every day I look around me as if I see it for the first time.

Let me take you with me…

An afternoon walk, and with the sun behind that cloud, it gives the image a moody feel, with dark reflections and the town on the other shore in shadows
This is back in autumn 2021. I watched this tree as the leaves started turning until the tree had shed them all. This pond is an overflow of the river that is on the other side of that bridge, and in the background you see the same town — Dordrecht — as on the first image.
On the right edge of the image you see the same tree I mentioned above, and this was the pond on a sunnier winter day, with the buildings beautifully reflected in the water.

I don’t only use the river and the pond for images, but one day it rained a lot, and I noticed the reflections in the puddles. Of course I had to make use of that too!

On the left, the branches of a tree reflected in a puddle. In the middle, a reflection of the top of the water tower, and on the right, one of the many lamps on the route I take.

This country has a lot of water, and closer to home we have a couple of ponds too, so there my camera gets put to work too.

This is really close to home.

I sometimes take my proper camera — Nikon D5600 — with me on my walks, and on one of those days I snapped this image after it rained.

I love how the light reflects in that drop of water!

On my daily walks, I listen to audio books, say hello to people out for their walks, and even come across the same people several times a week. The walks are not only good for my physical health but also for my mental health. Even though I am listening to books, the time alone helps me to order my thoughts, and see some things from a different perspective. And to top that, somehow the physical tiredness when I get home — I walk at a quick pace — gives me a great feeling too!
