Dahlias, Ducks and Ducklings, Dragons and Dragonflies

Dahlias, ducks, dragons, and dragonflies — a diverse group of subjects that are all connected by their beauty and complexity. Each subject has its unique characteristics, from the delicate petals of the dahlia to the majestic flight of the dragonfly. Let’s delve into these subjects one by one and explore their beauty.

First, the dahlia. These beautiful flowers come in a variety of colours and shapes, making them a favourite among gardeners and photographers alike. Their intricate petals and bold colours provide endless opportunities. Among my favourite photos on my portfolio is this gentle yellow-and-pink petals. The colours complement each other very nicely. On the left-hand side of the frame, we see the soft green background that contrasts nicely with the pink. I wanted to highlight the beauty of the petals, so I went very close to the flower.

Dahlias come in all kinds of colours. I haven’t looked through all of the photos I’ve ever taken of dahlias, but here is another gentle beauty in orange.

Lastly for this topic, I will show you that colourful subjects can actually work nicely in black and white, as well. Look at the pattern of the petals below.

Next up, ducks and ducklings. A bunch of little yellow fluffballs following their mum is an irresistible sight. On that occasion when I took the following two pictures, there were only two ducklings. I wonder if they lost their other siblings or simply they were a small family.

Now tell me that you’re not melting at the sight of this cuteness overload.

The picture below is actually a part of another photo that deserves a place of its own, but I like the birds that were swimming in the sea on a pleasant summer evening.

Author’s Photo

This proud man was walking boldly across the street. Thankfully, there are barely any cars passing there.

Author’s Photo

He easily made it to a small stream.

Author’s Photo

Another handsome boy is pure white.

Author’s Photo

He was very talkative, as you can see.

Moving on to the dragons. Apparently, I didn’t take photos of real dragons out in nature. Although thinking about it, one can find Komodo dragons in Indonesia, so technically, it’s possible. A dragon fruit would have been a nice addition to the post, but alas, I have never taken photos of them.

I will resort to a decorative dragon that was my subject when playing with light painting. I think I should have also tried it with a red light to make it look more fiery. But hey, maybe this is a special species (types? or whatever classification dragons follow).

Next week is time for the letter E. It was a bit tricky. Can you guess what the subjects will be?
