Meet the Ghost Boat Team

This project is being led by Medium, the site you are reading this on, and the team at Matter, its flagship publication. Our core group of contributors includes some of the world’s foremost experts on East African migration and crowdsourced journalism. We are supported by the efforts of Meedan, First Draft, and AJ+.

Eric Reidy An American journalist based in Tunisia, Eric has covered human rights, migration and culture in the Middle East and North Africa as a contributor to Al-Jazeera, Al-Monitor, Vice, Foreign Policy and others.

Bobbie Johnson A senior editor at Medium, Bobbie was previously with The Guardian. In 2012 he founded Matter, an award-winning publication focused on innovative, agenda-setting digital storytelling.

Meron Estefanos Award-winning Eritrean-Swedish journalist Meron is an expert on North and East African refugee migration. Her weekly radio show is the locus of activity for Eritreans escaping to Europe and beyond.

Gianni Cipriano An Italian photojournalist, whose work focuses on contemporary social, political and economic issues, Gianni is a contributor to The New York Times, Le Monde, The Wall Street Journal and L’Espresso.

Nora Younis Nora is the editor-in-chief of Meedan, which builds digital tools for global journalism. Former web chief of Al-Masry Al-Youm, she’s based in Cairo and is well-known for using new media to uncover human rights abuses.

Noah Rabinowitz The photo editor at Medium, Noah is a photographer and writer who was previously on staff with The Wall Street Journal and Guernica Magazine.

Rebecca Cohen The team’s researcher and fact-checker, Rebecca is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism, and was recently an editorial fellow at Mother Jones.

Rachel Glickhouse Medium’s editorial intern, Rachel is a journalist focused on Latin America and immigration, and an MA candidate in social journalism at CUNY.
