Cynthia and Me
Writing for NaNoWriMo

I’m doing what I did last November when I wrote during the big NaNoWriMo: I’m stockpiling stories. These are not time-sensitive, so they don’t need to be published the day I write them. So far, I’ve got five ready in my drafts folder at Medium.
I want to relieve the pressure to write consistently for Medium during the NaNoWriMo Spring Camp. At this time, I don’t have anything in place for NaNoWriMo except for a person in Spirit who came to visit and wanted to be in a story.
She’s five years old, and her name is Cindy. This morning, she told me she wanted her nephew Sam to be in the story, too. Sam is a baby, and I had to explain the difference between a brother and a nephew. It feels a little odd because I don’t have a whole lot of experience talking to kids. I never had any myself, but I do know not to make fun of her.
I was telling her I thought it was funny how her name starts with a C and Sam’s name begins with an S, but they sound the same. She told me she doesn’t know about that stuff because she’s only five years old and can’t read.
I have to explain to you that I’m a channel. That means I talk to dead people and folk in Spirit. I differentiate between calling them dead guys and folk in Spirit because I don’t know their stories and don’t always ask. It’s like questioning somebody you just met, asking them whether they sleep in the altogether or wear pajamas. There needs to be decorum no matter what you do. It’s just that I feel that way.
The way I understand it is that although there are incarnations where we cycle back and forth through our bodies on Earth, there are also variable times between incarnations. For example, somebody could be gone two days and already incarnating again, or it could be months, years, or eons between lifetimes.
Some folk in Spirit never incarnate. At least, that’s how I understand it.
Ah, my guide Seth just asked me to mention that you can incarnate in different lifetimes simultaneously. He said, “Multiple! Multiple!”
Hey, do you want to say anything? (Everything in bold italic below is from Spirit.)
No, I’m fine.
Have you met Cindy?
She is here now.
What do you think?
I think she’s a sweet little girl. I have a suggestion.
What?
Why don’t the two of you alternate stories? She could tell you a story that you write down, and then you could tell her a story about something.
I hadn’t thought of that.
She is considering. It would be good practice for you both as a writer and a channel. I think she would enjoy it. Do you want to know what the folks at Medium think?
Sure. Hey, Cindy?
Yes Ma’am.
You don’t have to call me Ma’am.
That’s what is polite. One of my mommies here said I should do that. To be mannered is what she said.
So, Sweetie, why don’t you call me Aunt Pauline or just Pauline? I think that would be okay.
Can I call you Teacher?
Yes, you can call me Teacher. What made you think of that?
Because I never had one.
Then, yes, I can be Teacher.
You cry a lot.
You make me happy, Cindy.
Sometimes, my mommies call me Cynthia.
What would you like me to call you?
I don’t know. I’ve never been in a book before.
Well, I don’t know if it will ever be a book, but we can pretend it will someday.
That’s okay. We have a book at home.
What is it?
I don’t know. The mommies read out of it. Your guide, Seth, came too. Did you know he’s a teacher?
Yes, I knew that. He’s been a good teacher. I’ve known him for a long time.
How long?
Thirty-one years.
How come you had to fiddle on that thing?
It’s called a calculator. It figures out numbers.
You don’t do it in your head?
Sometimes I do. Other times, I use the calculator.
What did you do?
I put in 2024 and then subtracted 1993, the year I first started channeling. Thirty-one years.
Oh. I’m tired. I think I will take a nap.
Me too.
Really? Do you take naps? I thought you were grown up.
Well, I am. But I’m retired, and sometimes people like to take naps. I’m one of them.
Oh.
I’ll see you next time, Cynthia.
Goodnight.
So, that was interesting. Sometimes, I don’t know when Spirit is pulling my leg. Anyhow, that happened. I might end up doing something like that for Spring Camp NaNoWriMo. Possibly, by the time this is published, I will have figured it out.
Thanks for reading.
