Cutting the ‘‘Money is Evil’’ Bullsh*t Once and For All.

Get paid for what you like doing. And make sure it is a lot!

About a week ago, I was having a conversation with a buddy of mine about money. He and I both agree that money is essential in our society. Nothing too difficult to understand.

But then, we hear the argument that money is just a means to an end and it is not important at all. Another argument we hear is that money turns people mad.

I am done hearing this type of bullsh*t.

I am downright pissed off about people saying money is not essential in life. If you Read Sapiens (which I am working on an article on the book) You will understand that money is a concoction created by collective agreement within all other sapiens. The creation of commonly believed fiction like money is the very reason we grew as a species. By common belief in a fake reality (in this case, the intrinsic value of money), we can cooperate and trust strangers.

Money is just dirty paper with old people’s face on it.

Technically, yes!

Money has no value on its own. Money is worth the VALUE we ALL agree to give it. Whole economies base themselves on the difference between currencies. People exchange different currencies based on the value we agree they are worth.

But this is not a Forex course. This article is a rant!

Dumb Argument 1: Don’t get paid for your passion.

I have heard this more times than I would like to admit. People say this to me with a big smile. These are the same people that dread their Monday mornings. Incredibly talented people are wasting their time working in fields that don’t passionate them, just because of their status.

Some people call it dishonest to get paid for something you love doing.

I don’t understand that. If you love to take pictures, monetize it. If you love writing, monetize it. If you love painting, monetize it. If you enjoy singing, monetize it.

Now, this is not a quit-your-day-job-to-become-an-acrobat article. Gary Vee says that enough times for me to repeat it

But then, why would I emphasize so much on monetization?

Because if you receive monetary value in exchange for your passion, It might push you into making it a living.

When I first started blogging, I never thought much of it. I enjoy writing quite a bit. I wanted to find a way to document my journey and to share my thoughts with the world.

After a week of blogging regularly, Medium sent 0.13$ to my stripe account.

I never thought 13 cents would make me so happy! It just me the possibility of sharing my thoughts with the world and getting paid for it. I believe that documenting my journey might help others start as well. Or even learn from me.

If you love doing what you do, the money will find you.

Most importantly, if you get paid doing what you love, you’ll be able to do more of it.

It’s safe to say that people are happier while doing something they love doing.

Dumb Argument 2: Money is evil

This argument is by far the most ridiculous thing I heard after ‘‘communism works’’ (spoiler: it doesn’t). People argue that money turns you into an assh*ole.

I’m not too sure about that.

I have met LOTS of broke assh*les in my life. I have also met LOTS of amazing wealthy people. I don’t believe that money makes you a wrong person or not. I genuinely believe that money doesn’t change a person. If you’re a badly intended individual, you’ll always have evil intent.

Another argument that boils me is that billionaires shouldn’t exist.

The argument follows the idea that having $1bn is inhumane.

Jeff Bezos’ network is estimated over $109 bn ibn 2019.

‘‘How selfish’’ you might think. But let’s break it down. Amazon has over 647500 employees in 2019. He grew his company from 11 employees to more than 600k in 24 years*. He has helped the world economy grow in so many ways. Not only by hiring people across the world, by lifting Amazon employees’ minimum wage to $15.00/hour when the federal wage was $7.25 in October 2018*. He ensures his employees’ wellness even better than their own government.

To top it all off, Amazon has created over 20 thousand millionaires in 2017. That number just keeps increasing.

Next time you think that it’s inhumane to have billionaires roaming around remember all the impact in humanity and economy billionaires have.
