Curious Lives

GiaB writing prompt #20

Serpents slithering. Seductive, sensuous snakes scoring sandy shapes.

Our world is teeming with life forms with strange, and curious shapes. Even among mammals, which share a very comparable internal physiology, the external visage can be far removed from our own. It is a deeper mystery to ponder upon the biological necessities that gave rise to such varied and imaginative phenotypes. Considering that a great many land mammals manage to survive on the sustenance provided by low hanging foliage, why then did the giraffe require such a long neck, and why uniquely so? Since a great many animals of smaller sizes live in the vast blue oceans, why then did the blue whale need to be so huge, and significantly larger than the next gargantuan aquatic being?

The wonders of the animal kingdom can be a fun to thing think about.
