💯 STORY CHALLENGE
Crocodile Tears
#7 of 💯
‘Spare me the crocodile tears Sue. I’m leaving.’ ‘I’ll kill myself.’ ‘No, you won’t.’
‘Don’t you love me?’ ‘Not since you cheated on me.’ ‘It was one time!’ ‘Goodbye Sue.’
“At that point she pulled a gun and shot James Anderson twice. One round went through his heart. Then she placed the gun in her mouth.
Instead of aiming straight though, she aimed at a 35° angle, so the bullet exited from her right cheek.” the prosecutor stated.
“That’s how she survived.” “Yes your Honor.” “Did you get this information from the defendant?”
“No your Honor. It is a reconstruction of their last dialogue after extensive investigation. The defendant keeps claiming a third party was the shooter. An African American man.”
“With her own gun?” “Yes your Honor.” “Including the shot through her mouth?” “Exactly your Honor.”
Judge Rogers looked at Sue McGrath. She had a history of mental illness and a record of violence and battery. Half her face was still bandaged.
“May the defendant please rise.” Sue McGrath and her lawyer stood up. “How do you plead?” the Judge asked.
“Not guilty your Honor.” “Are you sure council?” Judge Rogers asked. He had been briefed about a guilty plea offer by the DA. “We are your Honor.”
“Very well. Trial is set in 2 months. No bail.” “Your Honor…” “My word is final. She is a flight risk.” he struck his hammer.
Before taking her to prison Sue’s lawyer asked for private time with her. She was given 15 minutes. “Will you finally tell me what happened that night?” she asked Sue. “Did you kill James?”
“I did not.” “I see. ‘The black guy did it.’” “That’s the only lie I said: he was green, not black.” “Green?” “His entire body had green scales and he had a face.. no.. a snout like a crocodile. The Crocodile Man.”
“I see. And how did he shoot you with your gun?” her lawyer asked. “He stole it from me.” “And your mouth?” “He was super fast! He moved like that guy in the comics, with the red suit. And my mouth was gaped, so it was easy.” Sue smiled awkwardly.
Sue’s lawyer hated losing. However, deep down, she hoped she lost this time. Her client was a complete nutjob! A public health hazard! As she was leaving the court she glimpsed a green shadow.
‘No way. She just excited my imagination.’ she thought. Later that day Sue McGrath was found dead.
