Criminals are Job Creators?
I’m not a criminal and don’t aspire to become one — just thought I should put that out there before writing this blog.

Strange thoughts often cross my mind and this was one of them. In evaluating each of these scenarioes, someone needs to perform and economic analysis to determine if the cybercriminals actual add positive value to economies or negative value to society when all things are considered. For this analysis, just look at it from a economic viewpoint, don’t consider ethics or morals — because if we limit ourselves to that then there is not need for analysis IMHO.
Let’s start with cybersecurity. If there were not criminals, you would not need cybersecurity. You could do without firewalls, passwords, and more. Thus, criminals create jobs to maintain cybersecurity. Every company and government in the world need cybersecurity to avoid data theft and leakage that would undermine their businesses. This creates 1000s if not 100,000s of jobs worldwide we can thank criminals for these jobs.
Without criminals, there would be need to for home security. Many homeowners shell out their hard earned money for home security systems that they may never need. Of course, if you need it, then you really need it but without criminals there would be no need.
I personally am not a fan of firearms. However, many buy firearms to defend themselves. If there were not criminals, then there would be need and the sales of firemans would be limited to those hunting or recreation. Also, people buy firearms for home security — no need if there were no criminals.
Stores would not need all those security officers if there were no shoplifters. Businesses would not need security to protect their businesses as well.
Also, you would not need to protect your assets from thieves because there would be no one to steal them. Beyond assets, there is identity theft, no need to protect yourself against that either.
So, I hope that you get the idea, theives do generate jobs but at what cost. I have listed only a few instances in which they create jobs. I’m sure that you can think of many more — just reply with those — build a list.
Finally, I will say even if by some miracle they create more jobs than their cost to society regardless of moral issues — I say no more criminals!! Don’t do crime use your ingenuity to for greater aspirations.
