Creativity is Like Deciding What to Eat for Lunch

Whatever decision you make will influence your decision at dinner. The same is true for the creative process.

Have you ever noticed the flow-on effects of a micro-decision? A friend once pointed out that if tossing up between something healthy (e.g., a salad) and something unhealthy (e.g., a plate of fries), whatever you choose will influence your next decision.

If you choose the fries at lunch, you will more likely be relaxed about your choice at dinner. And if you choose the salad, it will be more likely you’ll want to have something healthy to keep the trend going.

I tried this consciously and observed what happens. It’s true!

I’ve noticed the same about the creative process. Each decision opens up either a positive path of more creativity or one that shuts it down.
