Creativity Is Being Observant and Being Creative Makes You an Observer
I love being creative my whole life. I love it when I create something I worked on for a long time.
You see the results from the hard work you had on your creative projects. All blood and sweat from the moment you started that creative project.
When I create something — painting, writing, drawing, playing the violin, or anything else — I always observe people and situations. Sometimes I am somewhere doing my thing, and suddenly I see other things I can write about or I can create, or I just want to take a picture of the scenery I want to paint on canvas later.
Observe means watch, notice, say, and obey.
Watch
I watch what others are doing. I watch and listen to their conversations and if I think I can participate, I will do. But when I think I don’t have to participate, I don’t, because, in my opinion, it is not worth participating. I watch how people are towards me and behave towards me. Can I trust them or not?
When I watch and read the news or I see video’s — whatever video it is, Hallmark movies or a TED Talk — I observe the behavior of people in that video, I listen to the interviewer and the question he or she asks.
When I walk on the streets, I see a lot of things people are doing, birds are eating from the ground and a lot more situations. I observe them, or I hear things and think about it and do research when needed. Creativity is everywhere around you.
Notice
I always watch what others are doing. I notice their behavior, I notice what they are doing in combination with their behavior and I notice if they truly want what they are doing. It inspires me to write about certain topics I love and think it is worth writing about. It also must be in balance with where I stand for in my life.
Say
When I believe I have to say anything because it will be worth it or it is necessary, then I will say it. I am direct when it comes to my emotions, emotions of my children, or anything else not humanity. I mean, when someone says to me I am fat, which is not true, then I will say it. When I know something is not true, then I’ll say it. When someone needs to be called out for, I will say it. I learned to stand out for me since I have therapy.
Obey
I have obeyed to a lot of people in my life and almost lost myself. I thought I didn’t matter at all. I thought everything I said and everything I did was not worth it at all. I thought that other people would know better for my sake. Since therapy, I know that is not true. I may be there too, my own human being is one of all worth in the world.
One part is that I have been through a lot of things in my life that I observe what is happening and then I participate if I think it is necessary. I want to trust the situation and the people first before participating.
But being observant is great, even if you are creative. I think because of the things you have been through you will be observant and all the creativity comes alive. Being creative — even before you’ve born — makes you being observant too.
