Creating Worlds is What She Does

Response for the Essay Writing Challenge

It started with pen and paper. A young girl with stars in her eyes. A girl ready to take on the world and show them what's in her brain. Reading was her passion, and the more she read, she realized she could create her own world. Books helped her escape from the childhood traumas she went through. The books were her closest friends.

The characters always soothed her. She wanted to do that for others. Sloppy handwriting and run-on sentences are how it started. She would spend hours writing and then having the adults read it. No one encouraged her to become a writer when she was little, yet no one discouraged her either. She seemed always to be just a little invisible. At least she had her characters.

Year by year, she wrote less and less until high school, when her teacher encouraged her to be creative. It brought back the feelings she had about creating worlds of her own. She finally had another outlet where she could be creative as she wanted.

While in high school, she attempted to write what is now called "Erotic fiction," and a teacher found it. However, this teacher said she wasn't talented enough to write it, so she must have copied it, and she was given detention. She never wrote again for years.

Her professor fell in love with her writing in a college writing course. The professor helped her remember why she started writing, and it was to bring worlds to life. She tried to convince her to change her major to writing. This now young woman, for a while, kept writing. Eventually, life got too busy, and she stopped again for almost ten years this time.

This now-adult woman did a NaNoWriMo in 2020, and again it reminded her why she loved writing. When she writes, her whole body begins to hum, her mind is at ease, and she slips into the world she is creating. She feels the emotions of her characters as she lovingly creates them.

This time she hasn't stopped writing and never will. She will continue to create worlds for people to escape. She will continue to use her words to evoke emotions from people.

She wants her readers to connect with her characters. In addition, she writes so her readers also have another place where they find comfort. After a long day at work, they can put on a pot of tea or even coffee and curl up with an original story by her and escape.

Writing is therapeutic for her. Diving into a different world daily brings out the best in her. She finally sees herself as a writer. Writing allows her to explore different emotions that humans experience.

Writing helps her connect with people in a way that she would never have without it. It allows her to love people on a deeper level because she's learned why people are the way they are as she builds her characters.

Without writing, the last seven months of grieving would have been hard. Writing will help with the next few months as well. Even as a girl, the best way to express herself was by writing. It's sad how she lost that and could have turned all those years of tears into words.

Now, when she sheds tears, she'll write. When she feels pain, she'll write. When she feels happy, she'll write. When she feels any emotion, she'll write. Now that the love she lost has finally come back to her, she will never let it go away again.

Writing is a part of her and somehow was always a part of her, but she forgot it and left it to the side. No one will ever discourage her again. Writing has become so engrained again into her life if she goes a day without writing, she feels off.

Writing is as essential now as breathing. She wouldn't know what to do if someone took writing from her life as she's rekindled her way of expression. It's more than words on a screen. Writing brings her joy and lifts her up when she feels that she can't.

Writing allows her to process so many thoughts and feelings. She can create worlds she has only dreamed about and wishes she was in. Not just fantasy worlds, but parts of life she wished she could have experienced. Her character can be the strong, courageous person she sometimes wishes she could be.

She writes because she wants her readers to see themselves in her characters. She wants her writing to spark memories in their personal lives because they'll fall in love with the characters. So it's more than just writing words. It's about building those relationships between her readers and her characters and making them as authentic as possible.

Seeing how people connect with the stories she crafts encourages her to continue to write. It excites her to read and hear the excitement of the readers. She wants to continue to surprise them. The feeling after crafting each piece is why she writes. She feels accomplished. Writing has added to her purpose and has shown her another avenue to inspire others.

She's not just writing for her. She's writing to show her nieces and nephews that it's okay to follow their creative dreams and use their creative minds. She wants them never to let anyone try and snub out their bright, creative light.

Writers are examples of how wonderful life can be when you let yourself explore creativity.

She wants to inspire younger readers and writers to believe in themselves and know that they should pursue their dreams. She wished she had pursued writing early on in life, but there are paths, and we each choose the best path for us at that point in life. The path she chose led her right back to her first love, writing.

Creating worlds is what she does now.
