Creating Change
Our Society: Addiction and More Uncovered Ch 51

Creating change is not easy. Going to a school for my doctorate we talked a lot about social change. There are a lot of things that can improve in our society, addictions, homelessness, war, money, and the way people use power for example. Creating positive change is very important for everyone. If we all do a little on our part, we can create positive social change. We are the people. Dolores said that we need a grassroots movement to create change in addictions.
How can we do that?
Make enough people interested. Get attention. Speak up. Share our voice. Be a role model. Make small miracles happen. Mentor kids and youth like Neal. Talk to someone. Care about someone. Care about ourselves and keep ourselves safe, and healthy. We all matter. Everyone matters.
Ron talks about our civilization and how old it is, he asks why do we do things like dog fighting and cage fighting? Are we still barbarians? Why are we competing? Why can’t we just play for fun? Why are we spending money on a few people when we could spend the same on millions of people? Who are our role models in society? Who are we putting on the pedestal? Ron asks where is the farmers’ parade? Where is the teacher’s parade? Why there is such access and greed?
Ron knows that there are a lot of good people out there. What is visible to most people is bad stuff in the media. Ron follows the good news app. To get good news not just bad. Albert if he could make one change to make things better it would be universal health care. More people would have contact with a system without worrying about being bankrupt. The biggest thing we can do to make a difference is universal health care. Being open and more supportive of one another would be a good idea. Albert feels instead of “othering” people and pointing fingers at good guys or bad guys. People are not that different from each other no matter which area they live in.
People are people we should not be treating people as “other” just because we don’t know them. — Albert
It is humanity for better or worse we are all in this pot together called Earth. Just be nice to each other. If we could just do that would help, he said.
He told me laughing: “if you figure it out, let me know I will sign up”.
For some reason at this point we just both had a laughing fit. It was a nice way to end the conversation. Laugh as much as we can, and enjoy happy moments. Flower told me that she hopes this book will be a light to a lot of people to continue a conversation among people no matter what place people come to the table from. Keep the hope of healing and potentially we can do a better job in our society. She was not sure what that would look like, but at least this is part of the discussion and that is where it’s kind of begins
Dr. Beatty was very excited about me writing this book. He was recently at a conference with university institutions and the number one topic was addictions on college campuses. It is a major concern. It was not supposed to be the number one topic, but it turned out to be. The biggest problem that the deans and school presidents had was how do we deal with addiction.
How do we deal with mental health problems?
Dr. Beatty was sitting in the audience thinking that there is no resource for the students on how to cope with addictions.

This book is dedicated to the memory of Bagóczky József my uncle who died at age 19 — alcohol-related car accident and to everyone else who has been hurt or lost related to addiction
Many people had been supportive and inspiring to me so I could create this book. Both of my wonderful children told me, just write that book, mom. My mom. I could have not done this without all the stories provided and the encouragement love and caring from my family and friends, nurses, doctors, counselors, teachers, professors, friends who are dealing with addiction and staying sober; and children, wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers of people who are dealing with addiction currently. Thank you for speaking up, sharing your stories and life experiences. Thank you to all the people who read this book while in progress to provide feedback, ideas, and encouragement for me to continue writing. I would like to say special thanks to my friends and family for believing me and encouraging me to go on.
