Creating a Tier List for Goals in 2024; Because You Are Going to Fail at Something
Failure is inevitable, so why not plan for it?

Typically, most people start planning for the upcoming year by creating both personal and professional goals.
And In the world of motivational speakers, where consistency is often levied as a synonym for perfection,
we strive for the ultimate perfect execution.
However, what often happens is that by the end of the year, many people feel like they have failed because they did not achieve the goals they set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year.
Things came up during the year that could not be put on the back burner. And even though they tried so hard to get back on track, like a deck of cards, the plan crumbled.
Last year, I was in that same dreaded position.
The same cycle of feeling like I failed.
My previous therapist moved to Ireland and passed me off to a ‘competent colleague.’ At first, when I saw the age of my therapist (10 years older than myself), I was turned off by it.
But then we got to speaking and that’s when he asked me:
Have you thought about making a tier list?
I sat through the session, and as I walked home, I was convinced that I needed a new therapist. What I’m sure the therapist would have thought was profound sounded like a concession.
Giving up.
Jump ahead to the week just before the new year.
As I planned my goals, I decided to give it a try. I stumbled onto a tier-list template and started writing my goals. And then;
BOOM!!!!
Explosion.
mind blown.
all of that.
Failure was inevitable, so why not plan for it?
Something so simple, yet I don’t believe I’ve ever heard it used in the context of planning for yearly goals.
It’s prioritising tasks to ensure that key objectives for the year are accomplished.
It's the understanding that:
Perfection is impossible.
This Tier list is not a get-out-of-jail. One could argue that it was the opposite.
Because previously when the goals were all or nothing, when one thing failed; almost like a deck of cards, everything began to crumble.
But with this tier list: the most integral goals never fall by the wayside.
‘If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail’
ACTION PLAN
- Create a hierarchy for your professional and personal goals in different bullet points
- Match the lists and incorporate the use of the calendar year.
- Place them on the tier list. Consider using monday.com for your priority list.
- Stick to the plan.
- If you need to fail; fail using a tier-list, so that the most important things are achievable by the end of the year.
