Creating a Productivity Dashboard in Obsidian

A life-planning system to help you achieve your goals

I’ve been using Obsidian for 3 years now. I’ve changed my setups multiple times. And among many other tools, Obsidian is the only one that I’ve stuck to for so long.

Obsidian is a great choice for note-taking. Everybody agrees on that, right? But it can go beyond note-taking. Sure you would need to rely heavily on community plugins, but it works.

It can be set up to fit any needs with the help of powerful community plugins.

I’ve used multiple dozens of planning and goal-setting apps in the past. None of them stuck with me. There was no easy way to integrate them into my workflow. That might be one of the many reasons why they didn’t stick with me.

I needed a system where I could set my long-term goals. Along those goals, a way to track habits as well as tasks, and review everything.

Timestripe was a promising tool. But I dropped it quickly.

After months, I found a tool called Improvee.

I found that this is the best of its kind. It perfectly met my needs.

Improvee.io had built a perfect system to design your life. It was based on the Plan-Do-Learn flow(PDL).

A perfect system to define your vision, visualize your dreams, focus on your goals, and create a future self you would be proud of.

I love this tool. I still do. I’ve used this for over 3 months. I’m amazed at how neatly designed it is, how effective, and how easy it is to use.

But there were a few things that were bothering me.

  • Online: Improvee is a web-based tool. So you need to be connected to the internet every time you want to use it. Also, not available for android and iOS devices as an application.
  • Yet Another Tool: This is another tool that you have to look after. Most people are against using a single tool as a Swiss army knife. But I disagree. If it works for you, fine. That’s perfect.

There was friction to use Improvee in my current workflow. So I’m making a switch. Trying to integrate a life-planning system in Obsidian from scratch.

One that is inspired by the Improvee app itself.

I’m creating this system for myself. But it can prove to be useful to fellow Obsidian users as well. That’s the reason why I’ll share the entire process of creating the dashboard here.

Also, the dashboard might need a few tweaks on your side to make it personal.

This life-planning system for Obsidian will help you gain clarity, focus, and motivation to achieve your goals.

This is the general idea of the system that I’m creating.

This system will help you set meaningful goals, and create a working system to help you achieve that goal.

As James Clear said:

You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your system.

This will be shipped very quickly, before 30 December. Because I want to start a new year with this system to plan and execute my goals.

Cheers!
