Creating a Healing Environment in Your Home
Organizing your space

What does a healing environment mean to you?
I started a new job a few months ago which forced me to look at my space because I had to add more monitors and computer equipment to my desk. Normally on my desk I have my regular computer monitor, I have candles, paperwork, notes my cup of coffee or tea for the day, bills that need to be paid, and in addition my crystals, sage and little elephant statues.
Those things make me happy when I look at them, they make me smile and I like to keep them around me.
Well, with my new space requirements I had to reorganize the bookshelf next to me to be able to hold the items that I feel provide a relaxing and healing environment for me. This of course meant that I had to go through my bookshelf as well as all of my other bookshelves and donate books that I do not want anymore and throw away things or file things that don’t need to be out here in my space.
It took a few days to go over everything. I was able to donate three or four boxes of books and folders, and binders that I did not need anymore. I moved things to a permanent storage place that I just don’t use as often. My not needed items included additional papers and folders and files and binders that just did not need it to be in my current space for my work and my writing.

I also recently got a crystal singing bowl and a metallic singing bowl and I wanted to create a space for them close to me where I can look at them and easily access them. Now, when I look at my shelf and I have items on it that I enjoy it makes me happy, it makes me feel good and more relaxed.
When you have too many things around you that you don’t need or don’t want it creates clutter in your physical space and in your mind creating stress and discomfort.
It creates an uneasy feeling if you have too many things in your space. I know that more things could go, and I have one more bookshelf that I would like to organize, and tax records that don’t need to be out here in my space and could be filed away in storage. I plan to work on those shortly hoping to get them organized this weekend.
I would also like to go through my storage and reorganize it and get things out of the way that doesn’t need to be stored either by donating or recycling or throwing them out. When I’m able to get rid of things or repurpose things it feels like of weight lifted off of my shoulders. It feels like I can breathe a little bit easier.
Today there are many techniques out there in the social media world and multiple shows and videos that talk about reorganizing your space and getting rid of things that you don’t want, or you don’t love. I recently did that with clothing items as well.
Since I started the new job, I bought some new clothing items, and my new rule is that if I buy one thing, I need to look at my closet and see what I want to get rid of and I want to get rid of at least one thing or maybe more possibly two that I have not been wearing or simply I don’t fit into. This one is the hardest one for me, I still have some clothing that I truly love, and I hope one day I will fit into it. When I was organizing my closet, I did donate multiple bags of clothing and shoes. Simply I’m just not going to run around in high heels anymore.
I prefer the more comfortable shoes that have low heels, or no heels and they are therapeutic.
Nursing and standing long hours takes a toll on your feet after almost 30 years. Of course, in pictures, and movies women look beautiful in high heels but in reality, it’s very uncomfortable and it hurts your feet to walk in high heels. It took me a while to acknowledge that I am not going to be in high heels anymore and to get rid of some of my dancing shoes and sandals. I did keep one dancing shoe that is very low heel it’s mostly for practice just in case I feel like I’m going to start to dance again.
My takeaway from this experience is that reducing clutter and creating space that you can truly enjoy without continuously having to look around and seeing that other things need to be done is beneficial for my health and well-being.
Creating a space where you can relax, have fun and have things around you that you enjoy will bring harmony and support into your life.
Even though it took some time and emotionally it was a little bit painful process to get rid of some things it helped me to look at things more factually and say to myself do I need to have this item and for what reason?
