Create Your Brand as a Writer
Turning your name into a brand

The idea of creating own brand as a writer is fascinating to all of us. I am sure you are also thrilled about creating your brand as a writer, aren’t you?
Recall any three favorite writers of yours, and how do you feel about them? Do their names evoke different emotions about how they made you feel through their writing? Do you have some specific expectations before reading any of their Books?
Your favorite writers have marked their footprint on your mind through their signature style in writing and created their brand.
The journey of turning your name into a brand is not straightforward; your brand is a blending of skill, talents, uniqueness, values, interests, and thoughts that reflect through your writing.
I am a newcomer in the writing world and at the stage of learning and exploring. Yet, I am writing on this topic as I worked in three corporates for more than a decade in creating the brand value of their products and services.
I have tried to blend my marketing and writing perspectives to pen down my thoughts on brand as a writer.
First of all, what is a brand?
It is not just the physical features that create a brand but also the feelings a consumer develops towards the company or its products or services.
Think about global brands like Apple, Nike, Starbucks, ZARA, etc. A good brand stands out because you experience some outstanding value from them.
For instance, the success of Starbucks is in its real-customer experience around coffee consumption. The mission statement of Starbucks: To inspire and nurture the human spirit — one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time”. They are offering customers relaxing and enjoyable experiences.
Creative Canvas
The creative world, as such, writing, painting, movies, the canvas, etc., is much larger than any commercial product or service when it comes to developing feelings. A writer can take the readers to the world of imagination by his creativity and make them thrilled, excited, motivated, inspired, and whatnot.
Bring your stories alive on the page, and make your readers feel something of what the characters are experiencing through evoking their emotions through storytelling.
Words are powerful, and it’s all about how you are playing with these in weaving the story.
So, ask yourself How do you want your audience to feel and experience through your work? How do you want to be known as a writer? Questions like these will clarify your purpose in writing, and ask yourself again, what is the core objective of your storytelling, and for whom you are writing this.
These are some fundamental questions to ask yourself, and you need to think about them first.
You cannot have a clear vision by wearing a hazy glass.
“Your brand stems from who you are, how you want to be known, and who people perceive you to be”- Kimberley Grabas.
Add Your Flavor
Every day thousands of writers are coming up with the same topic on which you are knitting your story, but how you are bringing freshness to it, that’s the key.
You are a different individual, and you must have something to offer which is unique, give a portion of yours into the paper, and that does create the magic.
Find your own voice.
Your writer’s voice is what makes it possible for someone to pick up a page of text and recognize that you wrote it- Neil Gaiman.
We need to discover our individuality and strength as a writer then focus on those.
It takes time, dedication, sincere effort, and honesty, and there is no shortcut.
As a beginner writer, I am thoughtful and mindful of creating my brand, and what about you?
When our readers sit to read our story, they must not go back with an empty hand, and they must get some values (Hope, inspiration, thought-provoking, knowledge, facts, figures, or mere entertainment, etc.) We are committed to justifying our readers’ time, to value their time to offer something meaningful into their reading table.
Let’s dive into creating our brand as a writer.
I would shout out to a few of my fellow writers who are already an established brand, and they always leave their signature marks in their writing.
