Create Titles that Promise Everything to Make More Money on Medium
But don’t actually provide any value in the article

Titles are everything. Without a good title, people won’t click on your article. So, it’s important to have titles on your Medium articles that make people want to read the articles.
But is it fair to have titles that bring readers hope only to deliver only a hint of what you were hoping for? Sure, they might make you earn more money and if they provide at least something worth reading people won’t get too upset, right?
Maybe not. I think it is important to be transparent though. And a lot of articles that promise everything don’t reveal everything. They only show a fraction of truth.

Sigh. These articles are making me crazy. And yes, these are all written by the same person. There was another person here who used to write the same kinds of articles but she seems to have passed on the clickbait torch (and yes, I consider these titles to be clickbait because they are specifically designed to make people want to read them but don’t reveal full truth) to another writer. Or maybe it’s the same writer with another account? I don’t know. It doesn’t matter.
The thing that bugs me is that I DO want to make more money from writing. I click on these articles and they are all the same.
The first two titles are articles with a list of (usually three) places that pay a lot for articles. Great. It’s a nice resource to find places that pay good money for articles.
The problem I have is with the suggestion that writing one article a day will get you these big payments. Because it won’t.
Let’s think about this a bit.
First, you’d have to find a lot of places to submit articles to. And many of the places you find that pay decent money per article are not going to be in a niche that you’re capable of writing in. For example, I can’t write on a site that is about WordPress themes or plugins. I know a fair amount about them because I’ve been working with WordPress for a good 15 years, but I don’t have the level of expertise that sites like this would want.
I’m limited by my own knowledge, just like you are.
Let’s say that after some hard work, you do managed to find 30 (just a random number; you might need more or less) sites you are qualified to write for. You start writing an article a day and submitting it to one of the sites.
There’s no promise that your article will be accepted for publishing!
In reality, you’d be lucky if 50% of your articles were accepted. It would likely be much lower.
The first two articles suggest it is as simple as writing one article a day. But it’s not that simple. In order to write one article a day and start making $1500 to $6000 a month, you need years of practice. You need to learn how to quickly read submission requirements and make sure each piece you write follows them to the letter.
Article like these often take more than a day to put together, too. Not only does your writing have to be impeccable when it comes to spelling and grammar but you also need to provide real value. You need quotes from professionals and you need good sources to reference in your articles. Sometimes you even need original pictures!
Do you think you can write a 1500 word article like that in a day? Sometimes you may be able to but most of the time, you would spend several days putting together an article that would be worth $200 or more.
The last article I referenced about the site that pays $100 per post and lets you write as much as you want is referring to Listverse. This site has been around for a long time. They do indeed pay $100 per article they publish. However, they will get annoyed if you start sending them articles every day!
Second, they aren’t going to accept, “10 Ways to Celebrate Christmas” because it’s been done over and over again. You need to come up with an unique idea for a list. You have to find an idea that hasn’t already been done to death. At the very least, it shouldn’t be something that is already on the site.
Finally, you need reliable sources. You have to have a resource for each point in your list and it can’t be a forum where user so-and-so-89797 said it happened. Your list must be based on fact.
So, can you write as much as you want? You’re going to put a lot of time into making this list though and if you’re lucky, you might get one or two articles accepted per month.
I’m not telling you that you can’t make decent money from your writing. You absolutely can. It’s just not as easy as these articles make it sound. If you see an article(on Medium or otherwise) that makes big promises, don’t get too excited. Sure, read the article. But keep in mind there might be other aspects worth considering.
