15*15 CREATIVITY EXERCISE SERIES — 14
Create a signature collection with 15 pieces of clothing
This is your opportunity to go on creative adventures of a fashion designer
In this series (15*15), I design and present you 15 adventures and challenges in 15 days. I am developing these challenges in real-time — I hope you do enjoy and benefit from these exercises.
The goal of these challenges is to help you expand your imagination and exercise your muscles of creativity. This is the 14th day and 14th installment of that series.
In this challenge, imagine that you are a fashion designer. You will create your own signature collection with 15 clothes.
How will you do this?
Please check out the following resources for guidance and inspiration:
Your challenge is to create your own clothing line: Design 15 pieces of clothing.
Your goal will be to create ideas and inspiration for these clothes. You might think of their colors, designs, drapes, patterns, accessories, and embroidery. Perhaps you can even try to doodle or sketch how they would look like.
Your Challenge: Create a signature collection with 15 pieces of clothing
In this exercise, you will think like a fashion designer.
You can choose any type of fashion or clothing styles you want to experiment with: Vintage, bohemian, artsy, casual, sophisticated, party dressing, chic, sports, etc.
You can choose and experiment with a mix of diverse styles. Try to create the types of clothes you would love to wear.
So, in essence, you are creating your own signature clothing line — perhaps this will be your future brand. Alternatively, you can create your own garderobe and style.
What would be the title and the story of your fashion line?
What about your fashion values?
What could be each clothing about? What is the story behind each? What is unique about each piece?
Try to create the following for each piece or clothing:
The title of the piece (make it interesting and creative)
What is the short story (or message) of this clothing/piece? (what is stylish or unique or interesting about it?)
Try to sketch or doodle how it would look like
Imagine how the final piece would sound like (try to imagine colors, designs, shapes, drapes, patterns, accessories, embroidery, etc.)
Image created by Author
Feel free to draw, visualize, or doodle your ideas.
For the purposes of this exercise, please do not delve into too much detail for each piece. Aim for 4–5 minutes of thinking/brainstorming/writing/doodling for each clothing piece. You do not need to develop all the details fully. Try to create the minimum viable dress or clothing piece. If you want to go deeper, leave it for later. If you prefer, you can continue designing or even sewing/creating it. If you would like to focus on a few pieces and go deeper, feel free to create just a few pieces of clothing (instead of the whole fashion line).
You will benefit a lot from exercising your creative muscles and getting out of your comfort zone. If you do the exercise above, you will tremendously strengthen your creative muscles. We need to give our brain creative challenges every day. If we make this a habit, the process will help us rewire our brains to be more open to creativity.
It is important to start small and treat these exercises as play. They are small experiments in imagination. They work much better if you stop judging your ideas and obsessing over them. All projects start with small steps. Small actions are all that you need to get started on these projects. You will instantly jump in the water without thinking. Thinking too much hurts your creativity because it paralyzes you. Every creative or entrepreneurial act starts with taking a leap of faith into the unknown. Each time you jump into the unknown makes you more adventurous, open, and creative.
A curation of best films on fashion, fashion designers, and fashion inspiration
I will continue today’s post with a list of wonderful film trailers on fashion, fashion icons, entrepreneurs, designers. I have also included trailers of fashion competition reality shows.
These videos and films beautifully capture the talents and passions of fashion lovers, designers, and geniuses. They will inspire and elevate you to new heights.

“Elegance is good taste, plus a dash of daring.” — Carmel Snow
I hope we can learn from the passion, lifestyles, and joys of these talented fashion designers and icons.
I will finish with a great fashion revolution manifesto which will hopefully provide you some inspiration:
