Summary

The text is a reflective poem expressing the speaker's intense feelings and questioning the reciprocity of their romantic interest.

Abstract

The poem delves into the speaker's internal struggle with their deep emotions for another person, questioning whether their feelings are reciprocated or if they are alone in their intensity. It uses metaphors like gears and pulleys running berserk and a clock ticking counter-clockwise to describe the overwhelming nature of their love. The speaker wonders if they evoke uncontainable happiness and gratitude in their love interest, likening themselves to a fuel source. The poem concludes with the speaker contemplating their own sanity in the face of unrequited love, emphasizing the vulnerability and uncertainty that come with intense emotions.

Opinions

  • The speaker feels their love is all-consuming and wonder if it has a similar effect on the person they love.
  • There is a sense of longing to know whether their affection is returned with the same intensity.
  • The poem suggests that the speaker's love interest may not be as emotionally invested, leaving the speaker to question their own mental state.
  • The use of imagery like a "clock ticking counter-clockwise" and "tank of propane" conveys a sense of dysfunction and potential explosiveness in the relationship dynamics.
  • The speaker's feelings are so powerful that they compare their impact on the love interest to a fundamental change in the laws of physics or nature.
  • There is a hint of self-doubt and the fear of being alone in their feelings, highlighted by the question, "Or am I just insane?"

Crazy

Or am I just insane? That I’m the only one that feels this way.

As crazy as this might be I want to ask How crazy are you about me?

Do I make the pulleys and the gears in your mind go to work? To the point where they run berserk? Like a clock ticking counter-clockwise That needs to be fixed in order to function again

When you’re with me Can you contain your happiness? Where you stop smiling, stop feeling thankful Stop thinking, “I’m in love” And unwind from this tangle Or do I continue to fuel you like a tank of propane?

I want to ask Are you crazy about me? Or am I just insane? That I’m the only one who feels this way.
