Crazy Accurate Test Tells You Which Publication to Write For
It’s Not A Buzzfeed Quiz

The Big Five personality test is the only personality test that has any real predictive power.
You can reasonably predict job status, the likelihood of jail time, and even love of beauty based on the Big Five. Unlike tests like the Meyers-Briggs, this one is actually used by psychologists.
In this article, I am going to predict which Medium publication you should write for based on your results.
Take the test here and then check out your results below!
The Big Five Traits
- Openness
- Agreeableness
- Neuroticism
- Extroversion
- Consciousness
Each of these traits could be your defining trait, either at the high-end or the low-end.
Meaning, for example, you could be highly agreeable, or highly disagreeable.
For the prediction, simply take your most defining trait, either highest or lowest extreme, and find it below:
High in openness
People high in openness are the creatives among us.
Openness is a love of ideas and novel experiences.
If you tested high is openness, something beautiful could bring you to tears at any moment.
Full disclosure, this is my defining trait.
These are the stories, in all their abstract fuzziness and beauty. There are many great publications to check out:
Low in openness
We walk around and act like we all want to be creative. But, everything has a price, and the price for creativity is high.
Openness is the trait that defines our political affiliation (that’s right, it has nothing to do with facts, it’s all disposition).
People low in openness tend to be conservative. They love tradition and conventional ideas.
Truism: liberals (high in openness) start businesses, and conservatives run them.
Medium has (a) publication for you:
The majority of Medium is a pretty open, and left-leaning place. If anyone has any suggestions, please leave them below. I’m sure there are more.
If you scored low on openness and you want to talk, feel free to reach out!
High in agreeableness
People high in agreeableness love other people. A good life-goal is probably to care for others.
People high in agreeableness might love novels with intricate characters and intimate writing.
They might care about dating and romance. Or child-care.
Medium has plenty for you:
Low in agreeableness
Sure, people low in agreeableness are the most likely people to end up in jail, but they are also the most likely people to end up unbelievably successful.
Just look at Elon Musk or Steve Jobs. Both highly disagreeable.
One of the defining traits of disagreeable folks is the love of things over people. Agreeableness is actually the trait where you see the most differences in gender, and boys tend to be more thing-focused, and girls more people-focused. Of course, there are always exceptions, and we are much more alike than we are different.
To the highly disagreeable boys and girls among us, check out these thing-oriented publications:
High in neuroticism
Neuroticism is the tendency to experience negative emotions.
Safety is really important for those among us high in neuroticism.
You might find yourself
- Moody
- Sensitive to others
- Self-critical
Neuroticism is the only trait that seems to have no benefits as it increases.
Don’t worry! (as if I could stop you) It is also a trait that can be managed and lowered over time.
Many people, like Tim Ferris, have come back from the edge of suicide and led highly successful lives.
Coming out of the darkness just means you have something valuable for your community. Learn to share your story.
Let’s check out a few blogs where you might fit in and hopefully begin to heal.
Low in neuroticism
While being too high in neuroticism can be a bad thing, you might think the lower the better.
However, there are many risks in being very low in neuroticism. People in this group tend to never sense risk or danger.
That can be a good thing or a bad thing.
They are the thrill-seekers and the risk-takers among us. Since 90% of businesses fail, these people are the ones investing in start-ups.
Their motto is high-risk, high-reward.
Here are a few publications to tame your inner Mr. Peanutbutter:
High in extroversion
The people! The parties! The spotlight!
People very high in extroversion need the energy of other people. That’s how they recharge.
What are you even doing on the computer? There are probably real-life events for you to be at.
Most of the writers on Medium are going to be introverts. Still, I’m sure there are some of you social butterflies here. Maybe you are working on your social media following!

Low in extroversion
All you introverts out there! Secretly thriving during the pandemic. How dare you?
I get it because I am one!
I often don’t test as one, because I’m not shy. Meaning, I am not afraid of stages or groups of people. Still, I know that I recharge when I’m alone.
In introversion is your defining trait, you are probably more into your internal thoughts, deep discussions, and hobbies. You are also the most likely to self-identify primarily as a writer!
Let’s look at a few publications for you!
High in conscientiousness
If I had to bet, this is the most common result for Medium writers.
Conscientiousness people tend to be orderly and hard-working.
If you are low in openness, you are likely high in conscientiousness.
However, if you are high in both openness and conscientiousness, good luck. You are a hard-working creative. You love both order and novelty. It may seem mutually exclusive, but it’s not. It’s close, so you are constantly at war with yourself.
I know because I am.
