Crashing Waves
Disappearing footprints

Waves crashed onto the sand, erasing.
I took another step imprinting my foot,
only to have the water crash down on
the sand, erasing again.
The tide washed shells to shore,
some whole, some broken.
I tried to beat the next wave
to the seashells for my collection.
The sun beat down on my back,
warming me and I stilled,
burrowing my feet in wet sand.
Waves pounded my red legs,
burned by a long hot day in the sun.
Staring through darkened lenses
I saw the sun pinned up,
hovering in the blue sky,
a light over endless water.
It was a moment to be
written down, remembered.
