Ah, the good old summertime! Finally vacation is here. Even though my wife and I are retired, it still is nice to get away. Something new and different away from the normal routine. It’s good for the soul! It’s a great idea to get away if you can. We have been fortunate enough to be able to.

Don’t get me wrong, preparing for a trip is work. A lot of work. Over the last few days I wondered at times whether it was worth it. A lot of packing and things to bring for a beach vacation. Things to arrange at home such as someone to water flowers, bring in mail and feed the ducks, etc. However, as I am sitting here today at Drake Island Beach in Wells, Maine, I am glad we did it.

After driving 6 hours yesterday we arrived here about 4 PM yesterday, July 24th. I must admit I am fortunate that my wife drives most of the time. She doesn’t like to ride since she gets car sick. I try to help her with the navigation, however, for some reason I tend to fall asleep when riding.

Last night we enjoyed a delicious Chinese dinner at a wonderful sit-down restaurant here in Wells, The East. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend this restaurant. After dinner, we headed to near Wells Beach to enjoy the sunset.

The water here in Maine is always colder than down South but I must say this year it is warmer than usual; I’m guessing the temperature is in the 70s. The air temperature is in the low 80s with that wonderful ocean breeze.
