Crack Me Open

A Poem

Photo by Mitchell Griest on Unsplash

Crack me open and tell me what you find deep inside the recesses of my heart I know you think there’s nothing there, but perception is the key to what’s inside of me As if light refracted in a way to make me look maladjusted or misaligned or malignant while I sat there, content with the pace of life and unaware of the volumes of strife

Crack me open and read the book inside of me even though I know you can’t because I am the only person who understands the words and verses and linguistic nature of the poetic part of my darkened and bereft soul that hovers over you, but not me, for in the dark I can see just fine, the light finds me

Crack me open and let my chest breathe high up into the sky, aerating my insides and leaving me breathless, but not out of breath The only thing I gasp for is understanding as I was created as a maze, unsolvable with only one way in and one way out and both ways say Exit and not Enter

Crack me open and unleash me from my own constraints, let me fly up into the clouds and live amongst them, gently swaying with the breeze of serenity and humbled by the vastness of the sky I am home, uncracked again, unbroken The same as I ever was, detached
