Count Your Blessings Not Money

Success is sleeping every night with peace of mind not with tons of money in your bank account

Money doesn’t mean everything in this world. You will get some, and you will lose some. The point is how do you see your worth in this materialistic world. With 8 years of experience in different streams of work, I have not been able to get a full-time job. Did it break me? The answer is No.

One day I thought of posting my interview experience on LinkedIn and to tell you the truth my post went viral with more than 2 lac views and 3000+ likes. It had so many people who commented on it. Since then, I started exposing companies that had no intention of hiring a candidate but kept on calling for an interview. Did it make my life worse? No. In fact, I started getting more calls and this time from branded companies.

Why am I writing this today? Because I have been reading a lot about how people are losing jobs abroad. In India, everything comes late, be it a coronavirus or people to come to their senses to look for the second source of income. My sister-in-law in New Zealand has been asked to work for 3 days a week. Earlier she was working full-time. The company is talking about redundancy. It is going to happen and so many of us have so much potential that we can do wonders in our lives only if we have faith in ourselves.

What I have learned in the past 3 years is… Never stop applying for jobs irrespective of what is happening around you. It’s the first sign of being a determined human to look for a job as a daily routine. God is watching each of us and he is taking the test. That’s how I understand my life and I need to thank god for keeping me alive rather than taking away this life. Job is something I can find only when I am physically fit. So, I show gratitude to God every day.

Luckily, I never ran out of money. In the 8 years, when I was earning, I always gave a fair share of my money to charity. And trust me, it comes back in ten folds. This experience has been tried and tested by me. I don’t get to earn from all corners so I am thankful for whatever I have got and I was a good saver, still I am. My 3 years went well because I saved a lot while working full-time.

I am sharing the ten best things you could do to keep yourself motivated because losing a job is certainly not the end of the world.

  1. Never lose hope. Tell this thing to yourself more than hours in a day.
  2. Look at yourself in the mirror every day. You have to accept yourself at your worst like the way you accept yourself at your best.
  3. Cry, scowl, shout. Whatever works for you. You have to let it all go, be it any kind of emotion that is suffocating you to see the next day.
  4. Tell the person in the mirror that you are going to make it work. No matter how many people have given up on you, and degraded your worth, you have to take the responsibility into your hands.
  5. Even if you feel like killing yourself, don’t do that. God has a plan for you. God is there for you. How can I say that? If God planned to take your life away he would have done that rather than taking away your job.
  6. Read a lot. This is the best time to know about those who have always lived in immense poverty yet had guts to move this world. Surround yourself with books. Money won’t stay with you forever but knowledge will.
  7. I know many people are lethargic and don’t give a damn about being fit. But, get yourself back into shape. Don’t work out to become a model, rather put all of your frustrations into it so that you can sleep peacefully at night.
  8. Donate. Whatever. Whenever. Wherever. Whomsoever. Make this habit to donate in whatever capacity you can. I am not talking about money. You can donate books, clothes, old utensils, and unusable things that are always getting old in the corner of the house. Learn to give in return.
  9. Depression won’t stay with you forever nor will coronavirus. I take every day, one day at a time. The only difference is that Corona has come in 2020, I learned to overcome my fears in 2017. So, in three years, I became accustomed to seeing the world with more compassionate eyes.
  10. Hug Yourself. Nobody is going to hug you. Some may leave you because they all like to see the sunshine rather than darkness. But you have to do this for yourself. You are worthy of all the hugs and appreciation from yourself that you expect from others.

I am not a motivational speaker or a part of the training and development team. I have shared how I have handled it so well when my world came crashing down on me. It breaks us to make us. I am thankful. You should be too. Every plan has a purpose. It has made me who I am. I hope you find yours too.
