We are fortunate if we have a place to live.

Whether we live in a large home, a luxury mansion, a comfortable condo, a small apartment, or in the home of family or friends, we can consider ourselves lucky if we have and have always had a place to live.

There are thousands upon thousands of homeless people in the United States and throughout the world. There are people living on the streets or in small tents. People of all ages may be without a place to sleep and live comfortably.

Some of the homeless are able to find refuge in a shelter run by government agencies or nonprofit organizations. They are helped to get on their feet and out of homelessness as they receive temporary housing along with food and basic necessities.

There is not room in the shelters for all the homeless, and some people choose not to go to shelters because of the restrictions placed upon residents.

Most people have a place to call home even if they live in poverty, but there are thousands in the sad situation of being truly homeless.

It is hard for most people to even imagine life without a place to live. The migrants and illegal immigrants who are trying to get into the United States to start a better life are coming with nothing. They come with hope that someone will help them. We should be truly thankful if we have a comfortable place to live with all the conveniences as well as food to eat. Most people are blessed with the necessities of life, but it is good to have compassion for those who need help.
