Could Your Future Best Self Feel Ignored?
Our future best self is always ahead of us, waiting to cheer us on
“Set a goal so big that you can’t achieve it until you grow into the person who can.”
— Zig Ziglar
Our future best self is watching from the sidelines, cheering us on.
I lost sight of my future best self. Somehow, I felt that part of me slip away. I’ve been ignoring that strong desire to be better. I have felt a little lost and alone with my health goals lately. I feel like I’m in a desert.
I used to visit my future best self through daily meditation often, and I was intrigued by her. Then I felt that I was spending too much time with her and ignoring my present self.
Today I heard a whisper from her. She is my biggest cheerleader. She wonders why I have been choosing to ignore her.
Do you ever feel this life is much like a race? We might relax at times, but our goals give us a deep desire or drive. If we were to run a marathon without any direction, we would be sure not to reach the finish line.
Our life and our new year goals are much like a race. Do our goals have an attainable finish line? Do you know where you are heading?
I’m glad my future best self, showed up today in the desert of my life to let me know she would be going ahead of me to find a place to stand on the sidelines. She told me she was here to watch me come in from my daily races in life. She is ready to cheer me on. She already knows I will hit a wall once in a while.
What do you suppose your future best self wants for you? Whatever your deepest desires may be, is precisely what they would hope you achieve.
What is your heart’s desire?
A heart’s desire is something that you want very much? Isn’t this much like a goal or resolution?
Is there much difference between a heart’s desire, goal, or resolution? They are all something we strongly want except a resolution can also be a firm decision not to do something. Even so, it’s still something we want to achieve.
We already know that the goals we choose will not be easy. Our future best self must become our best friend. Our goals are always more manageable with someone else.
We are going to hit plenty of walls in the coming year. There is no doubt about it. If we can keep our eyes on the sidelines along the way catching a glimpse of what we desire so deeply, couldn’t this be just the person we have been ignoring for far too long? I think I began ignoring her around April of this last year.
In reflection, I think I turned my back on her because I felt like I was always letting her down. It wasn’t her; she doesn’t think that way. It was me.
“Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward. If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.”
— Roy T. Bennett
Can we let our future best self, down?
If they’re our best version, they’ve already walked in our shoes. They already know what to expect. They know which mile will be the one that trips us up the most this year.
They’re always waiting for us to show up. We must find our biggest cheerleader. We must stop ignoring them. They can already see the finish line because they’re that person we desire to become, or they’ve already obtained the goals we so choose.
Reflect on the past goals that you have achieved. You’re not the same person you were before you reached them. Your new goals are no different. We must keep growing into the person we dream of becoming.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
Do you need to dream greater? Do not stay stuck in the sand traps of this past year.
What is your dream for this future year?
My goal is to reach my healthy weight by eating fewer carbs and moving more throughout my days which isn’t much different from last year.
I made a similar resolution last year, but this year I have a much stronger why. I need to lose weight to get my blood sugar levels down. I recently found out that I’m insulin resistant.
As long as I get back to my healthy weight range, my doctor has encouraged me that my blood sugars would go back to the normal range. My blood sugar levels are a big why for me.
What is your dream for this year? How can you develop a more powerful why before life forces it upon you?
If you desire to be more creative, could it be a sign that your stress levels are too high and your future best self is luring you in hopes of avoiding any future damages from stress by being overly driven without a creative outlet?
Do you perhaps have a pull at your heartstrings to lose weight? Or maybe you have been stuck at a desk or recliner all day but too tired to move more. Could your future best self be whispering goals to change your ways because they can see what lies ahead?
“Hope: Belief in a bright future.”
– Lailah Gifty Akita
What does lie ahead for you?
A brighter future is always ahead. Sometimes we just have to take off those sunglasses. They can block the light from entering our view.
- Recognize the good you have in your life, maybe even giving it energy by writing it down. Give these life factors more weight while taking your focus away from the not-so-great parts.
- Acknowledge what needs to change, what’s not serving you in life. If a relationship, job, or habit keeps you from positive energy, it needs to change.
- We must accept the things, we can’t change. It would help if you refocused on the good it brings your way. We must always go back to gratitude.
- Do something if you can. Sometimes, our goals seem too overwhelming to start. That’s why breaking them down into mini-goals is essential.
- What else is possible? After we have taken off those sunglasses, we must open our eyes. It’s about living the next stage of growth. We must seek to grow through all stages of our lives. We continuously search for what else might be logical. It fuels us with hope and enthusiasm.
How can we take our hopes, dreams, or desires to the next level? How can we open up to even more love and support from our future best selves?
Inspiration for the future
Nothing is too far from our reach. We just might not be looking in the right places.
Your future self is always closer than you think. Could you have turned your back, or have you been ignoring them for all the wrong reasons?
Take a moment to think about your desires. Let your best self, take control when you doubt your goals.
For your future best self awaits you, but first, you have to slowly evolve into that person to receive the gifts yet to come.
Reach new heights and be the best version of yourself this year! Are you ready?
I’m thankful my future best self, whispered cheers of hope in my ear today.
