The Dutch government is considering relaxing some coronavirus measures, but not for the catering industry, and there is a chance that contact jobs could reopen earlier than the announced date of 20th of May.
Abstract
The Dutch government is considering relaxing some coronavirus measures, but not for the catering industry, as Prime Minister Mark Rutte says that it is unlikely and irresponsible to do so. However, there is a little chance that contact jobs, such as hairdressers and nail studios, could reopen their shops earlier than the announced date of 20th of May. There will be a piece of advice as soon as possible when there is more information if using mouth masks is useful. The government is also talking to the catering sector about their problems.

Coronavirus In The Netherlands — Update 22 April 2020
Another update from yesterday. Tomorrow will be the last day before the holidays in May for my daughters.
For more than a thousand secondary school students, their secondary school period ends in a minor. For those who should do an exam in the first place, there is no exam, but also there is no last schoolday and there is no Gala as usual. How can you — as a secondary school student — end your secondary school period with a good feeling? Are you in the living in The Netherlands — or you know a secondary school student: look through this, to look at what you can do.
Prime minister Mark Rutte says that he is afraid for what we have to do now as there is no possibility to relax the measurements for the catering industry. Different parties hope that restaurants and cafes could reopen partly, with for example a couple of tables at the terrace. “If there is someone who is a major consumer of the catering industry, then it is me — only coffee, of course,” Rutte said during the debate. “But I don’t want to raise expectations: it’s really unlikely, it’s irresponsible.” The government will talk to them about their problems. The government will talk to the catering sector about their problems. Healthcare cannot cope with a new peak in illness, according to the prime minister. Intensive care beds should also be available for others, such as cancer patients awaiting surgery. Rutte said he is struggling with all considerations, but not with the idea of easing current measures.
There is a little chance that the contact jobs — like hairdressers and nail studios — could reopen their shops earlier than the announced date of 20th of May. There will be a piece of advice as soon as possible when there is more information if using mouth masks is useful. The date of 20 of May is not precise: If relaxation is possible earlier, please. “One problem is that more people end up on the street and travel by public transport.” Then you immediately run the risk that people will collide in small alleys.”
Mechanics Dutch Railways are working on medical equipment. They are working together with the students of TU-Delft. They participate in OperationAIR, the initiative of Delft students to quickly produce emergency ventilation equipment. Everyone in the world wants all components of the equipment and that is why it will be made in The Netherlands. The railways supply the power to the device, eighty pieces.
Tere are a lot of parents who think it is not responsible to reopen the schools. But there are also parents who are very glad schools are reopening. Because there is a lot of question unanswered about teaching, getting lessons in tomes of Corona. According to Lobke Vlaming of the Parents and Education information point, parents are very divided about whether it is wise to open the schools. According to her, parents with weaker health or with vulnerable children are particularly concerned.
Ernst Kuipers from the National Consultation on Acute Care thinks that we could relate the measurements before the end of May. if the drop on the IC continues like this, then we could relax a little bit more: “I think we don’t have to wait until May 20 to see what the impact of the measure is around primary schools. Then perhaps we can also start further easing.”
Parents will also receive their own childcare contribution for a big part of May back on their bank account. This will happen to untile the Coronavirus measurement counts.
Dutch political organisations VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie believe that it is time for the government to also receive advice from a new team of experts who look at very different aspects and consequences of the corona outbreak. The participation of psychologists, educators, ethicists and economists is being considered. The government is now being advised by the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) with experts in the field of infectious diseases and healthcare. Besides Jaap van Dissel of the RIVM, the team consists of microbiologists, general practitioners, internists, intensive care physicians and virologists.
VVD wants that the government makes a different future plan for the catering industry. the support measurements of the government don’t help that much, says VVD party chairman Dijkhoff about the government decision to not relax the Coronavirus measurements. Also, the VVD thinks that companies must get to impose additional conditions if they get support from the government. Dijkhoff is not impressed by the bonus KLM CEO gets. “It cannot be that a company draws support and has money left over to sell shares or pay dividends at the end of the year.” Dijkhoff also thinks it is best to start another group of experts in the OMT. He notes that much broader advice is required than just medical advice. Economic and social advice is particularly desirable, Dijkhoff asks the cabinet to consider whether there might be a separate club for this.
Entrepreneurs are very disappointed about the measurements they still have to keep up. They thought they might do much more after the 28th of April. But this is not the case anymore. That said Hans van den Biesheuvel from Entrepreneurial Netherlands. He referred to Minister Wiebes who told Entrepreneurs in The Netherlands to prepare for reopening: “Then you get the impression that there are openings, that we can get back to work to a limited extent,” says Biesheuvel.
Director of RIVM — Van Dissel — says to The House of Representative that health carers use the mouth masks wrong. “Hanging them around your neck, as you sometimes see in the TV series, creates an extra risk.” Touching them in the meantime is also risky.
MPs are concerned about consequences of corona apps. During the hearing in the House of Representatives on Corona-apps, the MPs asked many questions about the social consequences. Is the population going to behave differently? What are the long-term consequences? They also want to know from the experts whether there are good alternatives. The MPs had organized the hearing because they were concerned about the rushed project of Minister De Jonge. Various experts warn that introducing an app once can have long-lasting social consequences. Once such a medical ‘tracking app’ exists, it is difficult to turn back the clock. Social discussion is ongoing in several countries. There is no country where an app works well and that is made according to Dutch requirements and wishes, they note. After this hearing, the parties will determine their position on the plans of Minister De Jonge. He announced last night that he wanted to build an app himself.
Old politician died because of the Coronavirus. Koos van den Berg, former MP on behalf of the SGP, passed away 21 April 2020 at the age of 77. According to the Reformatorisch Dagblad, he died of complications after infection with the Coronavirus. Van den Berg was in the House of Representatives from 1986 to 2002, where he was involved in matters such as Foreign Affairs and Defense.
The dentist will remain working in normal care. That says the Royal Dutch Society for the Promotion of Dentistry, is the professional organization of dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons. Oral care practices need to hold measurements of the government. Rutte says: “Dentists and hygienists were allowed to stay open, they closed themselves, they could already open.”
