Coronavirus In The Netherlands — Update 20 and 21 April 2020

Today, it was very chaos at home. My children needed me as well as yesterday. I’m truly sorry these updates come too late. Hope you are still safe and still at home.

There are again 75 people in the hospitals and again 67 deaths in The Netherlands. That says the RIVM. these announcements were made between 10 am Sunday and 10 am on Monday. There are fewer people than one day before. Then it was 110 people taken take to the hospital. The total amount in the hospital is 9779 at the moment. In total, the total death is 3751 people. The new infections that have been arrived are 750. In total we have 33;405 infections we know. This is the number of people that have been tested. Not everybody will be tested, so the total number will be much higher.

The shops and grocery shops get people who pay per card contactless payments. That is a possibility if you have a bank card with sort of wifi and around on your card. This kind of payments was made a lot more during the Coronavirus crisis. People were not paying by cash anymore. At least, way less often.

The Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) says the Corona-apps can’t guarantee the privacy of the people using these apps. This issue hasn’t been looked at enough when judging these apps. They also say that The Ministry of Health, Wellbeing and Sports hasn’t made clear their requirements for making these apps. “The whole of the Netherlands would like to go outside again, to take steps towards the normal situation,” says chairman Aleid Wolfsen. “But we need to avoid deploying a solution that is unclear if it actually works, with the risk that it will mainly cause other problems. Or that someone who cannot or does not want to use an app may be denied access to work. , school or supermarket. “

Sunday morning 800.000 mouth masks arrived from China at Schiphol. They will be used by medical staff. These masks will be tested before they will be used. These mouth masks are the professional FFP2 and there are scarce at the moment. This all says Minister for Medical Care and Sport.

800 Dutch people are back from Peru through a repatriation flight.

The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) decides the route of the Coronavirus crisis. It is a team of scientist and all are always the same. Besides them, there are about ten RIVM-scientist and another group of twenty other experts. Every time the group changes when something has to discuss a sub-subject, like what to do about school etc… But the main group are the RIVM-scientist.

Medical-technology company Philips has troubles from the Coronacrisis the last quarter. The gross profit dropped by three-quarters. The profit was 4,2 billion. A really important market in China — which was an important sales market — was the profit very low.

We have to travel and work differently after the Coronavirus crisis. That is what the Dutch people think also expect that will stay forever. The people who were staying home, working home and having meetings from home think that they will keep doing this after the Coronavirus crisis. The Knowledge Institute for Mobility Policy has investigated this.

Family doctors referred 360.000 patients less to the hospitals since March 12. About 290.000 patients had planned a surgery in the hospital which couldn’t continue since the outbreak of the Coronavirus. That says the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). To limit health damage and to prevent the waiting list, the Dutch Healthcare Authority agreed with the insurers and care providers to restart care for non-corona patients. People with the most urgent care needs should be the first to go to the hospital. The National Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) has drawn up a list of diagnoses to identify the most urgent cases. “This list should provide care professionals with guidance when starting care”, says the NZa.

This is the list.

Doping controls in the sporting world will be held much less, but it doesn’t mean doping controls aren’t performed.

There was a fire in nature. The Care Home next to the nature of the fire had to go. All the patients had to go somewhere else. 24 people had to be evacuated and they have Coronavirus. The fire was in The Deurnese Peel.

Update 21 April 2020:

RIVM says there are 165 new deaths, 118 people go into the hospital. That is 75 more than one day before. The total people that (were) are in the hospital: 9897.

The advice to the government: the school and the kindergartens may reopen again. Only primary school, but secondary school need to wait until the 1st of June. Special education may reopen as well. Young people may go sport again. That says the advice from the OMT they gave the government.

Read the advice here.

Corona check-app Our Lady Hospital Amsterdam is now available to use for everyone in The Netherlands. In this app, people fill in their medical history and what they feel at that moment. If this says you have the virus or something else is wrong, a doctor will get in contact with you.

There is a special Kingsday website to share celebrating Kinfsday at home. The Royal Association of Orange Associations (KBOV) has launched a special website where King’s Day can be celebrated online. The site koningsdagthuis.nl should give everyone the orange feeling, even though King’s Day cannot be celebrated in the usual way because of the coronavirus. “Do you always play the violin on the market? Do this from home this year and post a video of it,” KBOV chairman Pieter Verhoeve calls up. “Performances, games, music: there’s all room for it on the platform. Mayors can put people online in the spotlight or give a speech. Anyone who wants to can attend an activity.”

Reopening schools is not without risks. The government says that the school may reopen on 11th of May, but the OMT also says that not all conditions have been met to relax the measures. “It is not possible to state with certainty in advance what the effect will be if measures are relaxed or cancelled. This also means that relaxing or cancelling measures involves an uncertain risk of an increase in the spread of the virus.” However, the experts now advise relaxing measures, because otherwise, the social, financial and economic consequences will be significant.

21 April 2020 — Update press conference

All the festivals will not take place this summer, no festivals until the 1st of September. It is not responsible to see a lot of people together in one room and having another peak of the Coronavirus. Pinkpop, North Sea Jazz, Lowlands, Down the Rabbit Hole, Best Kept Secret and Woo Hah report that tickets purchased for this year will remain valid for 2021. Zwarte Cross will let you know what happens with tickets tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning. In total there are 1200 festivals who are not able to hold their festival. According to Prime Minister Rutte, “we cannot escape making this sacrifice. I hope and count on people to understand that.” All the people who bought a ticket ask if their ticket is still available next year.

Secondary school understand the delay of not going to school: “It is good to note that the secondary schools, if justified, can start again in early June, and thus well before the summer holidays, with an (adapted) program at school,” says a spokesperson of the Secondary Education Council. In May, the government will decide when Secondary Education will reopen their schools.

Chairman of the General Education Association Eugenie Stolk believes it is important that education staff who are unsure about teaching are not pressured. “If you have health problems yourself or your partner has them, then you shouldn’t be forced to stand in front of the class,” says Stolk. The AOb will keep a close eye on how everything goes in primary education and what this means for secondary education. “Only if that goes well can there be the next step.” She hopes that the RIVM study that has not yet been completed on infections in children will be made public before the schools open. “The Education Minister has always said that this research had to be there before a decision would be made.”

Marthijn Laterveer, the coordinator at the National Organization of the Client Councils, is disappointed that visits to nursing homes are not allowed until 20 May. “I had hoped that customization would be possible,” he said in the radio program News and Co. “There are more and more houses that indicate that they want to look at what is possible in terms of visitors. For example, by setting up separate rooms for visitors.”

Without an app, it will be difficult to know what contact you had and if you got the virus. Last weekend there was a lot of criticism about these apps that will be probably the app to know if you have the virus from someone you passed by. “This step was necessary and we are now going to take the next one.”, says the Prime Minister Mark Rutte. He thinks that we can’t go without an app: “I think it is difficult. I cannot fully see it. My idea is that the app is very important.” He emphasized that GGDs cannot conduct contact investigations for all infections at this stage: “Maybe still in Groningen, but not in Brabant.”

Rutte doesn’t go on holidays, but there is no advice to if we — the citizens — are allowed to travel. It will be our own risks. “We’re sailing on sight. We can’t look any further than three weeks ahead.” People now have to take the risk themselves. “But I’m not going to book anything, because then I might have lost my money.”

General director Gerard Dielessen of NOC*NSF is happy that children up to and including 18 can organize sports again: “We are already working with municipalities and unions to see how we are going to organize this,” he said in the radio program Nieuws en Co. “We have always said: where you can exercise, it would be nice if society kept moving. But we saw that the young age category, in particular, started to move much less. So that it is now starting up again is nice.”, he continues. Dielessen mainly thinks of boot camps and fitness exercises. “But who knows, playing football with a distance of 1.5 meters is also possible. But of course, there should be absolutely no physical contact.” Young people who are not members of a sports association are also expressly invited to participate in outdoor sports.

Dentist and dental hygienists are allowed to be open again. Rutte says: “Dentists and hygienists were allowed to stay open, they closed themselves, they could already open.” Other contact jobs are not allowed to reopen their shops.
