Coronavirus In The Netherlands — Update 18 April 2020

How is your weekend so far? Do you stay at home? I do, and I am doing groceries only when I have to. My children are finishing their work from last week to start bright and shiny the next week.

Military Police advises the Germans citizens to go back when they arrived at the border between The Netherlands and Germany in Roermond. Most people are going back, some people are still continuing their journey. When they get back in their own country they have to go into quarantine. On the N280 there was a traffic jam because the Military Police was advised the citizens there.

Chairman of the Security Council, Hubert Bruls, says that — after 28 April 2020 — the rules for young people must be relaxed. According to Bruls, it is difficult for young people to keep up the Coronarules. In the security regions, it is a concern about how you will say to young people that they need to keep up the rules. “You cannot expect young people not to go to school and not to the sports club and not to concerts,” said Bruls. “Look around you, young people like to go outside.” Reopening the schools after the May holidays could be an option, but Bruls emphasizes that it is up to the cabinet to make choices.

‘Vindicat’ is a student organization in Groningen. They have students who were partying and not keeping the rules. They were partying one day before yesterday. The people who were partying, are not allowed to be a member of ‘Vindicat’ anymore. They can’t keep up the rules, as the organisation says. “We are incredulously aware of the incident that took place last night,” said a statement from the association. “It was an illegal and most importantly irresponsible action, completely contrary to the corona policy of the government and Vindicat. Not adhering to the guidelines and thereby endangering others, we do not accept that from our members. We do not want anything to do with this behaviour. “

Last Prime Minister told us that we all have to get used to the new normal with the 1,5-meter distance society. This is why he asked all the companies to think about how they can do this. Still, the companies think it is not really possible to do that.

The Ministry of Health held a Corona-’appathon’ yesterday. Today it will continue. With this digital event, the makers of their Coronavirus app will present it to The Ministry of Health. Next week, The Ministers will say which app made it through the selection.

On the 19th of April, there will be a flight from KLM going from Kenia to The Netherlands with Duch people and other EU citizens. That says the Ambassade in the Kenyan capital city Nairobi. Travellers who want to go with this aeroplane have to pay €900,- for the flight.

There is a lot of criticism, doubts and questions about the Corona-apps. It is unknown how these apps are put together, how privacy is and how these apps are secured

The daily number about the deaths of the Coronavirus from our RIVM is not complete at all. People who are dying at home or in nursing homes will be not tested and are not counted with the official numbers. The real number of deaths could be much higher than we know now. The Central Bureau of Statistics and family doctors can help to get a more complete picture of the exact number.

A Dutch initiative Serious Request (from radio broadcast 3FM) — that takes place every year — took place last week as well to raise money for The Red Cross of The Netherlands. This money is for helping those with the Coronavirus. 307,392 euros has been raised for the Red Cross. 3FM DJs Sander Hoogendoorn, Timur Perlin, Jorien Renkema, Eva Koreman and Frank van der Lende revealed the final amount via a large screen in the studio. The 3FM DJs made live radio 24 hours a day to raise money for the aid organization, including by turning listeners’ request records for a fee.

Always check the (latest) facts with your country.

The numbers and stories are from yesterday or earlier this day. I haven’t seen new numbers so far, when there will be new numbers, rules and interesting situations here in The Netherlands, I will inform you.
