Summary

The Netherlands is taking measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, such as closing the Bollenstreek area, urging people to follow safety guidelines, and considering apps for contact tracing.

Abstract

The Netherlands is implementing stricter measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, including closing the popular Bollenstreek area due to large crowds. While many people are following safety guidelines, some young people are reportedly having difficulty maintaining the required distance. The Security Council and Staatsbosbeheer have praised the general adherence to stay-at-home orders and social distancing rules. Plans are underway to create an app that can notify individuals if they have come into contact with a coronavirus patient, but concerns about privacy and hackers have been raised. A train conductor was recently attacked and spat on by a passenger claiming to have COVID-19, and DJ Martin Garrix had the police called to his home for announcing a live concert on Instagram.

Opinions

  • The closure of the Bollenstreek area is not an unnecessary luxury and is necessary to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
  • People are generally following safety guidelines and staying home, but young people may need more education on the importance of social distancing.
  • The use of an app for contact tracing could be a valuable tool, but it must be designed within the boundaries of privacy laws and be hacker-proof.
  • The attack on the train conductor and the reaction to DJ Martin Garrix's announcement highlight the importance of taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously and following safety guidelines.

Coronavirus In The Netherlands — Update 12 April 2020

Yesterday happened a few things. So, here is another updated of The Coronavirus in The Netherlands.

It is always busy in the Bollenstreek during the year where everyone takes pictures with beautiful flowers. Also, last weekend people were still going to this area to take pictures. The mayor of this borough said that it is not meant to go here at this time. So, from now on this area is closed and people are not allowed to come here this year. These measures are not an unnecessary luxury: “It is just as busy as one day before and also comparable to other busy days in the spring when the Keukenhof is simply open,” says Mayor Arie van Erk. “I sometimes think: have you been lying under a rock or something?” He also says that we might be happy that we are still allowed to move to the grocery store.

A lot of people are keeping up the rules. That is what the Security Council, the umbrella of Security Regions, said. On the beach and in the woods were quiet, but not in the water areas and in the Bollenstreek. Both the Safety Council and Staatsbosbeheer see mainly problems with young people. “We see that adults generally keep to a distance of one and a half meters,” said a spokesperson for Staatsbosbeheer. “Young people apparently find that more difficult.” Overall people listened generally to stay at home and keep the distance.

There are plans to let people install apps to know if they had been in contact with a Coornapatient. This app must be voluntary. These apps must be used within the boundaries of the privacy law and only for temporarily use. That says the coronavirus envoy, Feike Sijbesma. These apps must be hackers proof.

Also, there is a train conductor spat on by a passenger of the train in Amersfoort. Also, this train conductor was hit by this passenger. The conductor has a lot of pain in her cheek and she thinks about her health a lot as she doesn’t want to get the Coornovirus. This man says he had the Cooronavrius.

DJ Martin Garrix got the police on his doorsteps as he said that he will give a live concert. The DJ announced this through his Instagram. But he wanted to give a live concert through this social media app so everyone could stay home and listen through this app, or if people live in the neighbourhood, people could stand on their balcony.

A restaurant organised a ‘drive-thru-Easterbrunch’ as people can’t go to restaurants to go on an Easter lunch or something like that.

In a Jewish healthcare centre in Amsterdam, Beth Shalom is 22 people — of the 120 residents — death because of the Coronavirus. That says a spokesman after The New Isralic Weekmagazine paid attention to it. Fifteen other residents are isolated because of testing positive on Coronavirus.

Always check the (latest) facts with your country.

The numbers are from yesterday or earlier this day. I haven’t seen new numbers so far, when there will be new numbers, rules and interesting situations here in The Netherlands, I will inform you.
