Coronavirus In The Netherlands — Update 10 and 11 April 2020
Here are some new updates from the last 24 hours.
Update — 10 April 2020:
One day before yesterday another man was tested positive on Coronavirus. This man has been hospitalized. This man was on a ship in the have of Waalhaven in Rotterdam. On this ship are 13 crew members isolated. They are having the Coronavirus. In this ship are 77 crew members onboard — the offshore vessel flying the flag of the Bahamas. Also on this ship has been a man found dead at the ship.
The Military Police stands with the border between Germany and The Netherlands. They want to protect the citizens by saying to turn around. German citizens want to stay in The Netherlands during Easter weekend. The borders aren’t closed and the Military Police may not refuse them. “If you go back to Germany, you have to be quarantined,” warns military police. “That is why we advise you to return to Germany. This is not a necessary visit.”
The mortality is much higher this year than previous years between 30 March and 5 April says Central Bureau of Statistics. They think the deaths will be around 5100 people. That is 2000 more than the weekly average of the first ten weeks of the year 2020.
Corona patient is administered plasma with antibodies against Coronavirus. One of the patients of the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam got those antibodies from someone who has been better from the virus. Science research must say if this research will work in the future. It is the first time in The Netherlands that someone will get an administered plasma
In Amstelveen, students are fined as they were in groups together, on their campus. This campus has 3400 places to live. Everybody has their own place. You share a building, but you have your own room. You can stay at home alone. These seventeen students who were not following the rules got fined. They were not distancing enough, according to the police. “The time for warning has passed. We have now done that for a week, or perhaps longer. Anyone who cannot keep his distance now will be fined 390 euros. It is a waste of money,” says the police.
Also, young people chilling were fined by the police. The police have fine 42 young people in Bergen op Zoom for not following the Coornarules. In Breda, eleven young people got fine for not staying on distance. “Despite the beautiful weather, we urge you to avoid recreational and nature areas,” a police spokesperson told Omroep Brabant. “The following also applies to these areas: a maximum of two people — excluding families — and a meter and a half away.”
The Netherlands and Italy had to compromise to get settlement between the European ministers of finance. There will be a support package of 500 billion euros for healthcare, companies and employees in countries who got a lot of difficulties of the Coronacrisis. The support is — partly without any conditions — as Italy wants. But Eurobonds is not in this settlement. The Netherlands is against joint government bonds. Italy and the other South European countries could — because of Eurobonds — have more privileges and are have many advantages. Minister Hoekstra is satisfied with these results.
Summer Carnaval in Rotterdam will be cancelled. The participants have because of the Coronavirus crisis too many time to prepare themselves. Think about making the costumes, the choreography of dance groups. Because of the crisis, it will be difficult to find sponsors for this festival. This festival has millions of visitors every year.
The World Music Competition in Kerkrade will be held in 2022. It has always 350 thousand visitors. This is the first biggest event that will be postponed. The WMC will be held every four years. The participants are classical orchestras, big bands, brass bands. This festival should begin in July but is postponed. “The corona crisis has put an end to the preparations for a large number of participants,” says organizer Max Kousen at 1Limburg. “Many orchestras also say that they are currently missing income from performances and therefore do not have the resources to participate in 2021. By postponing the festival, we give our participants more air.”
The borough of Rotterdam uses the cameras on cars that were actually leant for the Eurovision contest, to maintain the corona rules. People who violate the Coronarules will be photographed by these camera cars of 360 degrees. When the police see these violaters the violators will be fined. Rotterdam is the first city who uses cameras to protect the rules. These camera cars will safeguard at parks and squares. Otherwise, you will be fined with 390 euros.
In The Hague, there was found an illegal sex brothel. Those people may not work int their neighbourhood Doublestraat. These women were now working Heerenstraat, but illegal.
Radio masts were presumably set on fire. The last four days the radio masts were set on fire in Beesd, Rotterdam and Deurne. In the night of 9 on 10 April, the radio mast in Nuenen was set on fire too.
Now for Dutch people, there is a free e-book about the Coronavirus, specially written for children. It is for children between 5 and 10 years old. This e-book is written by a British publisher. The illustrator is axel Scheffler from The Gruffalo. Nobody has been paid for this project.
For everybody in healthcare is still very hardworking. They need to take of tother kind of health care, but it is still starting up at that point as the attention was more needed on the Coronavirus patients. The coordination centre says they need the IC’s of Germany very hard. On the IC’s they don’t recognize any less pressure of the Coronavirus patients. They do not yet notice the decrease in ICUs, says chairman of the Dutch Association of IC doctors Diederik Gommers. “It is still very hard work. I am only reassured when the weather is around 700 patients so that we can provide normal, high-quality care again.”
Update — 11 April 2020:
The jurisdiction will be in the evening and in the weekends. The criminal trial will be held this way, said Gerrit van der Burg in the Dutch TV programme Op1, the boss of the Public Prosecution Service. This is not to get delayed because of the Coornoavirus crisis. Now there are still about 5000 cases that are still waited to be held.
Foodbanks expect ten thousands more clients. That is what they say to the Nederlands Dagblad. Because of the crisis, people will lose their jobs and people could not find a job soon. That is what the chairman, Leo Wijnbelt, of the Foodbank predicted. “After the health-crisis comes to an economic crisis,” says Wijnbelt. The food banks have seen the number of requests for help increase in recent weeks.
It is less busy through the borders between The Netherlands and Germany. According to the Military Police, there are less German citizens crossing the borders between The Netherlands and Germany. Every Easter weekend Gerlan citizens are coming to The Netherlands to celebrate Easter. This year will be different. “It’s not very busy, but we try to convince the people who come to go back as much as possible,” said a spokesman. “Every car we can turn around is another one. Fortunately, we see that many people do that, but a few drives on. “We cannot say: you will not get in, because there is no entry ban. But of course, you hope that the advice given will keep things calm.”, continues the spokesman. Also, the Military Police got a question from a Dutch entrepreneur to let in his German clients.
The market in the borough Helmond had to close as people couldn’t give each other 1,5-metre distance. Also in Deurne had to close the way to the nature area ‘Het Buntven’.
People working in the health carers aren’t tested actively on The CoVid-19 virus. 60% of the 2500 active respondents of the enquête said they are not tested carefully on the virus. They could have the Coronavirus, but they won’t know it. In the field of working with mentally disabled people is very high: 74%.
